Re: Still looking like new

For the first time ever she failed her MOT! Needed some welding to the rear off side outer sill and all is well now. Just some chrome trim to fit to the off side door strips and the front bumper and she'll do for yet another year. 118,000 miles and counting.

Re: My 74 - year old mistress is 75 next year!

After struggling with worn sliders, eventually managed to fit the sliding sun roof in April ready for the season. Had to replace the drainage membranes (which had rotted) that channel any water ingress out to the wheel arches, replace a few 78 year old woodscrews, but after a few hours effing & blin...

Re: My 74 - year old mistress is 75 next year!

Nearly there now. All I have to do is steam iron flat the leading edge of the headlining, shrink the fabric for an even tighter fit, and do a few cosmetic jobs (replace rusty screws, paint the rear slider brackets, make up and replace the broken rear wooden batten, clean & paint the wooden battens, ...

Message for 3pinplug

Mark, I've tried sending you a pm but it's stuck in my outbox and won't send. Long story short, I'd like the alternator if you still have it. Please could you email me on ***********@btinternet.com

Best wishes, Dave B

Re: My 74 - year old mistress is 75 next year!

Luckily the curved profile pieces of the ash frame were intact and I've been able to source a couple of pieces of ash for the straight sections. Progress is slow on the rebuild, but nearing completion. As you can see from the picture I've added some strengthening brackets! http://i1225.photobucket.c...

replacement alternator

Hi, I need a replacement alternator for my 1998 Rover 820 Sterling, preferably used and known to work (new ones seem to be fairly expensive). Having searched the internet I am confused as to what I need. There are 3 stud and 4 stud alternator mounts: which one do I need? There are numerous output ra...

Re: My 74 - year old mistress is 75 next year!

Sort it out? Yes! Easily? No! You can see from the pics that the sunroof is out of the car (the passing truck had already done most of the work for me!). Fixing the sunroof itself isn't too bad: I was going to replace the headlining anyway so I will start with the new headlining on the sunroof once ...

Re: My 74 - year old mistress is 75 next year!

Oh dear! I was driving the Daimler 15 recently (with the driver’s window open) to celebrate passing her MOT with flying colours, in the local country lanes. A large truck was travelling at high speed in the opposite direction. The “pressure wave” created by the truck blew in through the open window ...

Re: Still looking like new

She has just passed her MOT again, it seems that she wants very much to stay on the road! 113,000 miles on a 2 litre engine over 16 years is not much of a problem, far less than some of the mechanics (shock absorbers) getting tired, as well as the seemingly non-stop repairs to the electrics! I last ...

Re: My 74 - year old mistress is 75 next year!

This summer I had to rebuild the door cards and re-carpet the interior (76 years of use tends to wear things out a bit!).Here are the results which I personally find quite pleasing. Also blew the head gasket. Try finding a head gasket for a 1937 Daimler! Found a source and bought 2 (just in case). h...

Re: 1969 Daimler V8 250 saloon

A late follow up to your input Dave; I've spoken to several providers of overdrive units and they all seem to say the same thing, namely that they don't recommend fitting overdrives to auto gearbox cars even thought they will physically fit under the car (and the mods to the propshaft aren't too com...

Re: R960 radio cassette

Hi, thanks for the inputs. The eBay one was a ridiculous price! Managed to get one via one of the internet spare parts consortiums for £40 delivered with a 90 day warranty. it arrived today, so I'll fit it tomorrow.

R960 radio cassette

Hi, I need a replacement R960 radio cassette tuner head (with security code) to replace the ailing one in my 820 Sterling. Can anyone out there point me in the right direction please?
