I managed to change the gear rod linkages today,it was a joy to do the only thing extra to do was put a wider washer on one of the heat shield bolts as it had broke through.

Thanks for the posts and info.So far the worst thing that has happened was taking of the tie rod to control arm bolts.One was seized solid,no amount of heat,oil,scaffold bar extensions or patience worked so I had to then take of the arm and drill it out a different size step up at a time.
