Re: 1989 Rover 827 Vitesse automatic

Great work Marc, with that headlining fixed it must feel like a new car when you get in and look up.

Re: Re: 1994 BRG Vitesse Fastback

I think the PG1 and 2 internals are basically the same, from memory the casing is the main differences, I will find some pictures from the workshop manual.

Re: Re: 1994 BRG Vitesse Fastback

A picture of the countershafts side by side, everything else looks pretty much the same although I have not put them side by side. http://rovervitesse.com/IMG7408%20900px.jpg Rather oddly the diff does not have a driveshaft circlip groove on the other side, it is the O/S, speedo drive, long drivesha...

Re: Re: 1994 BRG Vitesse Fastback

I think your first suggestion is the only one that will work, it is the same scoring both sides of the diff.

I will get a countershaft comparison picture when I get back to the garage.

Re: 1994 BRG Vitesse Fastback

Eek! Looks like a marginal rebuild there Jim! You'll get away with it for light road use but i suspect on the track there would be many strange noises followed by a terminal strange noise! The new bearings should help, at least everything will be running true to where it should be. I'd haza...

Re: Re: 1994 BRG Vitesse Fastback

Thank you Marc and Henrik, I made some progress with the gearbox. It is definitely not a plate diff! Not sure how I got it in my head that it was but anyway stripping it down to inspect found some internal damage. http://rovervitesse.com/IMG7198%20900px.jpg http://rovervitesse.com/IMG7289%20900px.jp...

Re: Re: 1994 BRG Vitesse Fastback

Thanks Dave. The Quaife diff is a plate or disc type, much harsher than the Torsen type. I am painting the casing at the moment, probably should have built it first, I will post details of the rebuild once underway. First attempt to try the old parts in the new casing when I dropped the diff in it l...

Re: Re: 1994 BRG Vitesse Fastback

The new exhaust system is noticeably louder so needed testing before booking the next track day. I went to Brands Hatch when there was a track day on and noise testing, I wasnt booked in but took my crash helmet along just in case there was a space, anyway it did not pass, static test at 4500rpm was...

Re: Re: 1994 BRG Vitesse Fastback

The gearbox has taken some abuse and whining a bit once warm, it has a mix of ratios from 2 or 3 gearboxes with a diesel 5th for top speed, I don't need this set up at the moment so a good time to rebuild it. I also have a straight cut dog box with a set of rally ratios, I want to fit this temporari...

Re: Re: 1994 BRG Vitesse Fastback

Been a bit slack with updates lately, for good reasons though as I have actually been using the car. So to bring a few jobs up to date, I rubbed down and treated the rusty areas on the windscreen finisher panel, painted it satin black and glued the seal back on with Araldite after restoring the rubb...

Haha Richard I know, all in the name of fashion.

Thanks Dave, the expansion tank I bought complete, no idea who made it or where the parts came from.

Re: RollHard Bicester 4th August

Thanks Tony, I have never really done the shows thing before so it is nice to get some appreciation, the old Vitesse even gets noticed when filling up at petrol stations recently, something that has never happened in 20 years of 800 ownership.

Re: RollHard Bicester 4th August

It has not just been modified car shows we attended. My first proper car show was in July, the 2 day Historic Vehicle Gathering at Powderham Castle in Devon, this show was massive, everything from steam vehicles to supercars and autojumble and stalls with a central parade field. I was there on the S...

Re: RollHard Bicester 4th August

Couple of weeks later the Rover was in the London Cartel show at Ardingly, a huge modified car show.
