Re: Stupid _ _ _ _ _ _ Drivers?

I think peoples driving has gotten a lot worse, especially over the last 10 years. I would say I have always been an 'Enthusiastic' driver, but, by that I mean I drive carefully but enjoy driving quickly safely, when allowed. I have found that these days when leaving a deliberate, good gap between m...

Re: Rover 800 - Alternatives?

Ok, I will take that advice Richard. I forgot you had a 166. Shame, they are no good, they do look nice. Folk on Piston heads always seem to defend any Alfa to the hilt, saying stories of problems are over-blown, but I know you know your cars and was cautious about them anyway. Strangely, they have ...

Re: Rover 800 - Alternatives?

I had the earlier shape Granada Scorpio 2.9 24v, Cosworth engine was an absolute joy. I think mine was about 10bhp less than the controversial later bug-eyed cars, but still had around 200bhp and pulled really well. It had electric leather seats that I think were by Recaro, I found them very comfy, ...

Re: I've also bought a Jaguar

Love your x308 it's stunning. It looks like the same colour as my xj6 (x300), 'Nautilus Blue Mica' ? It's a very rare colour, they only seemed to do for a couple of years around 97, in fact i've never seen another one in the flesh. I think it's a great colour that really suits the car, especially wh...

Re: Chat about cars you've been in lately

[quote="Tenesmus"]1968 E Type Coupe, 4.2l 6 cyl. A 24 hour birthday present from the wife. What a blast. Speed bumps proved a little challenging, as did parking it - no power steering. 4 speed manual so a little different from the Sterling. People smiling and waving and taking photos. Surprisingly c...

Re: Jerky autobox changes

Managed to get the car high high enough on axle stands to get a good look at the rear mount and it's obviously split, not sursprising after 20 yrs, so problem solved :-) New mount only £20, so a very good outcome, compared to any gearbox work! Thanks everyone for teh advice.

Re: Jerky autobox changes

Not sure if there are diagnostics, as it is a 1991 car? Would the box be electronic? My 1997 Jag autobox isn't. Anyway, tonight, I got the missus to sit in the car and shift it whilst the engine was idling, from neutral to drive and then neutral to reverse, whilst I looked at the engine.. The whole ...

Re: Jerky autobox changes

I'm immensely surprised nobody has been surprised by the fact it was rebuild 4,000 miles prior to developing the fault! I'd take it back to the people who rebuilt it and get them to look at it in case it was their fault. Yes, I agree, and the rebuild was not cheap at Audi Dealer! But, that was befo...

Re: Jerky autobox changes

Thanks for the comments guys, please continue to advise me, as I am really stuck with what is causing this. The autobox was rebuilt about 4000 miles ago at an Audi Dealer. This was about 5 years ago and before we bought the car, so I do not know what caused it to be rebuilt. When we bought he car, I...

Re: Jerky autobox changes

Hi Dave, many thanks for replying. The problems were there before I did the fluid and filter change, although it is getting worse, I think. It does it hot and cold, the temp does not change the severity of the jerkyness. I used OEM filter and Halfords Dexron II Fluid, the fluid that came out was ver...

Jerky autobox changes

My better half has a 1993 Audi A6, the autobox has started to make very harsh changes, up and down. Actually, it is jerky accelerating or when the 'box changes down or up. It's FWD, which is somewhat alien to me, as I have nearly always owned RWD cars, so I was hoping that this being a Rover 800 (FW...

Re: Today I have been mostly...........

Just to chuck this in - I never rated the E Type at all on looks. It's stance was like a diesel train - track too narrow. That's why the series 3 is the best looker (grille apart). I think the xj6 S1 is the best looking Jag since the 60's, prefer the chrome bumpers and the door handles, the rocker ...

Re: A clear out is coming.(pics added)

Coventry Transport Museum on the 28th of October you will likely see lots of them covering the whole range. From 9.30am onwards the metro ownersclub will be in attendance having they're AGM. Ahh. Went there only a few months ago, but would be happy to convince the better half we needed to go again ...

Re: Today I have been mostly...........

Ha ha. I have about 8 inches on you.. Brad Sounds a bit rude lol! I've never understood why it took Jag so long to realise that some of the buying public were over 5'9 tall! Having said that, when they finally did realise, the designs of the cars went down hill imo, so perhaps they just cared about...

Re: A clear out is coming.(pics added)

One of the cars I learn't to drive in was an MG Metro. Always liked them, despite their faults. I thought the red seatbelts and carpets etc, really made them a nice place to sit and I agree the Zircon Blue was a great colour. Would be great to see more on the roads now in good condition, but I can't...
