I think the pump failed as in it stopped circulating water - probably the impeller separating from the shaft.
Certainly not unheard of

Re: Mercedade's '97 Vitesse Lux

At least its a reasonably robust T series, not a fragile KV6 - which means a chance that a gasket (plus perhaps head skim) may see you back in action

Re: Amusing read

Mind you, if you want to understand why the P6 was so lacking in style, you only have to look at the hairstyle and clothes worn by its designer, David Bache.

Re: Amusing read

The point of a VDP is that they were coachbuilt, in a separate factory, by the same kind of craftsmen that created Rolls Royces and Bentleys. This applies to every VDP up to the Maestro/Montego. The base car was just a canvas upon which the artists performed their magic. Hand stictched Wilton carpet...

Re: New Astra

I'll be interested in your impressions of it. I've had a couple of Corsas and an Astra as hire cars lately. I liked them - a LOT more than an Insignia I hired previously (a real nanny car that kept stopping you doing what you wanted by deploying "safety features")

Re: Amusing read

Dave, the wood, leather and carpets in the VDP are of a quality that makes the Sterling's materials feel like they came from IKEA. Thick leather, proper deep walnut veneer on top of wood (not aluminium plate) and Wilton carpets with enough pile to lose a Dachshund

Re: Amusing read

Comfortable, spacious, reliable and cheap - it did what I needed it to do when I was on a budget. In the right colour they look ok, too.

The inside of the VDP is glorious. Way nicer than a Sterling

Re: Re: 1994 BRG Vitesse Fastback

If you're on about the 4.0 Richard, you could fit a 7/16" penny washer in the 'stat outlet - it works wonders to regulate the coolant flow and keep them running cooler! Sounds counter-intuitive but it works. I used a home-made restrictor on mine and it improved things dramatically : http://gojeep.w...

Re: Re: 1994 BRG Vitesse Fastback

I must admit, that I am now tempted to fit an electric water pump into the circuit on my Jeep Grand Cherokee to run for a while after the engine shuts down. It already has an uprated Flowkooler pump for better flow when running, but can sometimes boil up after shutdown following some action in the d...

Re: NEC and Rover 800 owners club

My attempt last year to bring the Club and this Forum closer together, which I had discussed with James of this parish were rebuked by Alex because he thinks this Forum is homophobic and Tanya was none too keen either, Tanya being the Chairman of the Maestro Montego Club and the General Secretary o...

As a total aside, spotted a pic of a Volvo P1800 in Dubai submitted either by you or someone using your name and location in Practical Classics! :D
Yep, I sent that. They published my photo of an XK120 a few months ago, too - also in Dubai
