Re: New Astra

I'll be interested in your impressions of it. I've had a couple of Corsas and an Astra as hire cars lately. I liked them - a LOT more than an Insignia I hired previously (a real nanny car that kept stopping you doing what you wanted by deploying "safety features")

Re: Amusing read

Dave, the wood, leather and carpets in the VDP are of a quality that makes the Sterling's materials feel like they came from IKEA. Thick leather, proper deep walnut veneer on top of wood (not aluminium plate) and Wilton carpets with enough pile to lose a Dachshund

Re: Amusing read

Comfortable, spacious, reliable and cheap - it did what I needed it to do when I was on a budget. In the right colour they look ok, too.

The inside of the VDP is glorious. Way nicer than a Sterling

Re: Re: 1994 BRG Vitesse Fastback

If you're on about the 4.0 Richard, you could fit a 7/16" penny washer in the 'stat outlet - it works wonders to regulate the coolant flow and keep them running cooler! Sounds counter-intuitive but it works. I used a home-made restrictor on mine and it improved things dramatically : http://gojeep.w...

Re: Re: 1994 BRG Vitesse Fastback

I must admit, that I am now tempted to fit an electric water pump into the circuit on my Jeep Grand Cherokee to run for a while after the engine shuts down. It already has an uprated Flowkooler pump for better flow when running, but can sometimes boil up after shutdown following some action in the d...

Re: NEC and Rover 800 owners club

My attempt last year to bring the Club and this Forum closer together, which I had discussed with James of this parish were rebuked by Alex because he thinks this Forum is homophobic and Tanya was none too keen either, Tanya being the Chairman of the Maestro Montego Club and the General Secretary o...

As a total aside, spotted a pic of a Volvo P1800 in Dubai submitted either by you or someone using your name and location in Practical Classics! :D
Yep, I sent that. They published my photo of an XK120 a few months ago, too - also in Dubai

Re: Autocar; The man who built a Rover 75 Coupe

To be honest, i'm not really aware of what he's designed. The Lotus esprit Mk3, wasn't that the one that could be mistake for a Celica from a distance? From the front of course. The Excel is probably the car you're thinking of - not a big surprise given that Lotus were working closely with Toyota, ...

Re: Manalishis Mk 1 827 Vitesse (manual)

Handbrake problems can often be caused by people adjusting the cable when in fact the automatic adjusters in the caliper need adjusting. The correct procedure is: Loosen cable Wind pistons back into calipers Refit calipers and pads Pump the brake pedal until the adjusters take up the slack Adjust ca...

Re: Front wings for 1990 sterling 827

I seem to recall Brad saying that Maestro/Montego arches have similar profiles and can be used. Also a left rear 800 arch has the same profile as a right front (and vice versa) so repair panels can be cut from good, but dead, 800s rears

Clutch now fitted mechanic said "it was a sod" even though two people worked on it will ramp ECT. I guess that make me some kind of genius, hero or heroic genius :D I'm pretty sure that all mk1 wings are the same. How bad are your existing ones? New ones (or even good used) are going to be like roc...
