Re: Le Mans Classic 2022
Sadly, I've only just seen these. Thanks for the huge effort posting soooo many pictures, Lodein. It's funny what people stop to look at, eg P5 amongst many others. Maybe it's because they seem to be more attainable than the super cars or that they stand out for being 'more ordinary' in a sea of spe...

Re: Fastback's cars.
Yes, there are even YouTube vids on what to look out for (what if they're made by the fakers just to lead you on to their products  ). I researched the company and bought them through their own website, although they do have an eBay presence as well. Looking at the packaging, threads and prin...

Re: Fastback's cars.
I chose a random number based on about £4 a plug (Rimmers OEM £4.65, Platinums are also a touch more expensive). But your point makes mine even more so, if the Iridiums don't work, then it's only £16 to change. Not going to sweat £16. However, if you think £25 is expensive, then I'm not telling you ...

Re: Fastback's cars.
Sort of surprised you went for Iridium plugs, they have their benefits of longer service life etc but then steel plugs can corrode into aluminium heads so i'm always a bit dubious about that side of things. A few points really. Yes, the longevity, if they last 60-100,000 miles, then that's the last...

Re: Fastback's cars.
Most I think are suffering from oil vapour in the cylinders, which means the seals are a bit iffy. Hopefully the ATF-U will help. Are you aware of Forte seal conditioner and does it do anything different to the ATF? Top right is plug 3, the chamber was flooded with oil, gasket leak. I have replaced ...

Re: Fastback's cars.
On possibly the first truely nice day of the year, I've had some fun and games changing the spark plugs on the Sterling (KV6). It was not without its problems and what you're thinking is probably wrong. The main difficulty I had was this, https://i.postimg.cc/fkDpZ8Cy/Bits.jpg These are some plastic...

Re: Fastback's cars.
Even I fell into the trap of the doom spiral. Never gave plugs a thought, can't really believe I've not replaced them at some point.
Just bought some NGK BKR6EIX 6418 Iridium plugs. I'll fit those and maybe even add some ATF-U, if it ever turns up.
I shall report back in due course.

Re: Fastback's cars.
I have just been prompted into thinking, have I overlooked the obvious  ? We are all so keen to knock and even despise the KV6 engine (which actually is good, yes , I just said that) and equate a slight engine uneveness to catostrophic failure! I've had the Sterling ten years and 40,000 miles ...

Re: Fastback's cars.
my PC doesn't have an optical drive - so called progress! I'm a bit of an 'oddball' when it comes to things like this. I have multiple optical drives including Bluray burners and still have a PVR (hard drive TV recorder with BluRay player) attached to my TV. How quickly the cutting edge tech...

Re: Fastback's cars.
Thanks, Dave. I'll certainly put some in and see what happens. I'm not enamoured at the thought of a rebuild but would/will do it and for the parts, about £700, 'happy' to spend that. I'd rather do it before the engine 'lets go' as I'm sure that would be better all round. So, in preparation for a re...

Re: Fastback's cars.
Don't believe the tappets are sticky; sounds okay, starts okay, revs okay (gentle dabs when testing cold). But I can detect a slight uneveness sometimes on tickover (warm or cold) that suggests one cylinder isn't firing properly. Or have I misread that?

Re: Fastback's cars.
My KV6 Sterling is developing a slight misfire at higher speeds with a loss of power  and I think we all know what that might be suggesting. I've also had occasional blue smoke on start up, so I'm taking action before things get worse. My current thinking is to go big on the overhaul, paying ...

Re: Fastback's cars.
It's certainly all useful and interesting. I definitely remember my MG Maestro being green lit and the late 'J' 800 was I believe some sort of parts bin crossover (hence some Tickford trim). My recollection of those lights' colour is not fixed, it's over 20 years since I had it  , only that I...
