Re: 54mpg rover 827???

I see what you're saying Rich but i'm talking about the early 80's when i was told this - it could be that was the reason then or it could be a load of cowshed confetti on the part of the Datsun dealer at the time. The only thing that does seem definite is that most Japanese cars of that time were v...

Re: 54mpg rover 827???

Done a bit of net-surfing to try and find out about Legend final drives. Only thing i found so far was on this USA Acura-Legend Forum , the main bit of info is below : Ratios for the 5-speed manual (with 2.7L engine). 1: 2.93:1 2: 1.73:1 3: 1.22:1 4: 0.91:1 5: 0.70:1 Axle: 4.20:1 Final Drive: 2.95:1...

Re: 54mpg rover 827???

Thanks for that - in a purely anecdotal way it sort of bears out what i was saying in as much as the later Jap models have higher gearing but also it would seem we get the lowest final drive ratios, very interesting! I wonder what the final drive ratio of the JDM Legend is? Or even the US spec Legen...

Re: 1990 827Si Auto

Fair enough, glad it works for you, as you still have the clearance you should be fine but it has become a "pet hate" of mine as both my 420 (before this Sterling) and now the first MoT i took this one to (about 3 years back) had the same problem with the rear brakes. Both had brake-work done by non...

Re: 54mpg rover 827???

My long standing issue with FWD Rovers of all types is the ridiculously low gearing. The engines are smooth, powerful and well up to pulling a higher gear but Rover sacrificed refinement for ......well, I don't know what because there appears to be o advantage. I fitted a gearbox from a 420 diesel ...

Re: 54mpg rover 827???

Hmm, good point about the people who don't pay for the fuel being the ones most likely to drive "pedal to the metal" on the M-ways. I remember when i had company vehicles it was usually flat out most of the time, simply because there weren't enough hours in the day for my workload. Even when i got a...

Re: 54mpg rover 827???

Interesting about the economy at 53mph, i'm sure there's a lot of people would try and argue the toss on that one but the figures speak for themselves. Along these lines i sometimes wonder if the govt fuel economy tests are rigged in some way to make cars appear less economical at 75mph (the "old" t...

Re: 1990 827Si Auto

Well, put the old girl through it's annual test today and guess what............clean sheet! Not even an advisory! Remarkable for a 22 year old car I'd say! I went over it with a fine tooth comb before putting it through its test and it's almost like new underneath! All it needed was two upper ball...

Re: 54mpg rover 827???

Best MPG from an 820 I've ever had was 46.9mpg from J9 M4 -> ~J20 around 100 mile trip Next blast from j20-j4X = 45.3mpg Last bit to Pembrokeshire I averaged 22mpg I followed a bus at 62mph ALL THE DAMN WAY to j48, hence the 22mpg! WORST out of an 820 was 18mpg... not a nice journey either! Around ...

Re: 54mpg rover 827???

Cars designed to pass a test really is a sad state of affairs isnt it? No different to how it's been for decades sadly, since the govt introduced the fuel consumption tests. Bear in mind though that the Rovers fuel tests were probably done in a different format to the Focus, i.e. Urban, 56mph and 7...

Re: 54mpg rover 827???

Sounds normal to me for when i last had an 820 but that was a long time ago and i can't remember exact figures but sounds about right. My 420 GSi that i had more recently did similar and that was with a heavy right foot! Even on a hospital run one saturday night (26 miles each way) it returned 30mpg...

Re: 54mpg rover 827???

Just had a quick look at the listing Simon and it might appear it is no longer for sale as the listing has ended. However, that could be the seller playing it cute and wanting a quiet weekend so he can go and get bladdered with all his sheep-skin coat wearing car dealer mates (or am i being stereo-t...

Re: 54mpg rover 827???

Good question! As the original post was nearly a month ago, it's probably been sold but the original post also asked : ebay at its best how do you get 54mpg from the 827 lump? So, is the thread about : A) Buying the car B) Extracting more mpg from the 827 C) Someones hopeful economy claims D) The pr...
