Re: Just obtained something incredible...

Alexander, a lot of the remaining examples that still can be sailed are charterboats now and are used for exactly what you experienced. A lot more are converted to houseboats. Mast and sails gone and can be found all over Europe.

No "ijsstokjes" involved. Everything that's original in steel is steel in the model as well. I just can't imagine how many years this guy "Arend Pilon" has worked on this.

Re: Just obtained something incredible...

I found out a lot more about the original big one. It was build in 1907 in Stadskanaal/Groningen and was named "De Verwisseling". It's exact type is a "Groninger Boltjalk". It seems to be in the Amsterdam shipmuseum harbour now. I made a better pic. http://i19.photobucket.com/albums/b165/nightfire80...

"Tjalk" is a type of ship. They were sailing freighters.

Here some info about them: http://tjalk.seebyseeing.net/

Re: All you Plane lovers....

I "aquired" it from the dump when I was in the RNLAF in the early seventies. Always wanted to transform it into a small table, but never got to it.

Re: All you Plane lovers....

Another Hint: It's not always on the plane and certainly not necessary either..;-)

And the plane was in use with the RNLAF (Dutch Air Force)
