Re: Dan's 1998 Rover 820 Sterling Coupe Auto

Not had chance to investigate the autobox leak any further as of yet. It's not pouring out now, more of a gentle weep. So far has taken a litre and a half of fluid since last Monday, but despite the top-ups it is performing nice and smoothly again. After battering the wheel the car was looking a lit...

Re: What MPG figure do you achieve?

Been keeping an eye on my MPG figures over the past few weeks. Filled up on Friday after 2 weeks of urban driving (few jaunts up the A419 but mostly around town) - 274.6 miles used 50.42 litres of fuel, giving me a rough figure of about 24.8mpg. Filled up again last night after a drive up to Burnle...

Re: Interesting Rover 800 plate for sale on the bay ......

Only trouble with any of the "R800 ***" plates for sale as far as I can see is that you can only put them on a car from 1997/98 onwards due to the 'R' designation. Not a problem for those at the end of the production run, or the cars which were late registered, but most of the 800s were from earlier...

Re: Fred Elliott's Rover 800-Coronation Street

This makes me happy. When was Fred Elliott written out of it? One of my memorable moments watching the soaps as a youngster was a scene where Fred left a poker game (or some other tension-inducing rivalry event) with Mike Baldwin and Fred returned to a darkened car park to his Rover 800. Mike Baldwi...

Re: Dan's 1998 Rover 820 Sterling Coupe Auto

To be honest the leak came on so suddenly monday evening and I thought I'd better see how it goes with it being topped up/driving, rather than topped up/standing. So far it seems that it's not too bad if the car is used (but it does feel a bit worse for wear, or possibly just me being paranoid?) but...

Re: Dan's 1998 Rover 820 Sterling Coupe Auto

Unfortunately I do not have a pressure washer Steve, although given the state of the driveway I'll have to invest in one when we eventually move! If the weather clears up tomorrow I may take it to one of those pound-a-go jobbies at the petrol station, but I fear that one of those may be too powerful...

Re: Dan's 1998 Rover 820 Sterling Coupe Auto

Right, are you ready for some of the worst photographs you have ever seen in your life? By the point I had took these photos I had been rolling around underneath for at least an hour and my eyes were getting sore again, hence the blurry photos as I stuck the camera under there and hoped for the best...

Re: Dan's 1998 Rover 820 Sterling Coupe Auto

Been on the bus this morning (what an experience that was!) and bought some fluid, then returned home and followed Dollysprint Dave's advice - 1 litre of fluid, start up, through the gears, then left to rest. Placed a clean sheet of cardboard underneath to try and track where it is coming from and h...

Lovely stuff. Thank you Dave, much appreciated. I'll give it a go tomorrow and if I can get time between jobs I'll try and have a better look under there.

Re: Dan's 1998 Rover 820 Sterling Coupe Auto

In all seriousness, provided I check it regularly over the next few days until I can have a proper look at it, will it be a problem if I "top it up" and keep driving it? At least then I will be mobile and may even see me through until mid-April when I can throw some money at one of the cars. Talking...

Re: Dan's 1998 Rover 820 Sterling Coupe Auto

We have progress! Or at least last night I made a slight boo-boo. Turns out the thread on the stud (yes that's what I was thinking of) is actually ok and it was the cheap aftermarket nuts that were mangling. Luckily there was a spare in the boot, so all is well. That'll teach me to fiddle in the dar...

Re: Dan's 1998 Rover 820 Sterling Coupe Auto

Overnight it has dumped a copious amount of fluid on the drive. Can't see where it is coming from but from what I can see all pipework looks intact, given the engine work in the past I'd be inclined to say a seal has gone. For the record I do check the levels regularly and always check before a long...

Re: Dan's 1998 Rover 820 Sterling Coupe Auto

I'll have a better look tomorrow and see how serious it is. Probably not as bad as I think it is, but I'm reluctant to spend more money I don't have on a car that was only a stop-gap. I'd rather sort the Si out now.

Re: Dan's 1998 Rover 820 Sterling Coupe Auto

I have problems. Gearbox been playing up on my drive back from the north today. Changes were erratic and when cruising at a steady 70mph it would randomly drop two gears and bounce off the rev limiter. Thought it could have been because of my driving (inadvertently operating the kickdown). Drove bac...

Re: Rover 827i Auto Saloon for sale, 1995 N

No worries, Brad. I don't think I could top Tracy or Mal's offer, unless you take shirt buttons and a half-eaten Mars bar with fluff in the sticky bit! In all seriousness Brad showed me round this car on Friday and it is absolutely lovely in every respect. Very good condition both inside and out. A ...
