On the XJ40s, there was a reasonably common problem with rubber "doughnuts" on the prop shaft which would manifest itself as a 'clunk' when taking up drive sharply.
I know there's next to no commonality between the 40s and the X-type, but still maybe worth a look?

Re: 1992 Rover 827 Sli saloon Auto
Nah, not the earliest. Mk2s came out in 1991 on a J-plate. Your mk1 was some sort of unusually late registered mk1 that was probably forgotton about for while until someone saw it and snapped it up. ...which, as Mervyn's father's car is on a J plate, was kind of my point (even if I hadn't clocked i...

Wow - that's mega early!
It's registered a year earlier than my old 827 SLi Saloon in BRG - which was a Mk1.

Blue Mk2 Saloon Reg: **2121, Burnage
Great looking blue saloon with a very distinctive plate
**2121.
Looked positively stately - actually looked LWB, but couldn't say if that was optical illusion or not.
Burnage/Kingsway traffic lights - very nice!

Re: Its That Time Again.
Which bearing is it. I fitted a complete upright to the offside front in august just before MOT. Sorted the initial problem - it was coming from the front n/s hub. I've still got a noise I need to get investigated though, a rough 'hum' which happens rhythmically when slowing down, in gear, in drive...

I'm in Tadley until the 30th, and I spend a fair bit of time in Reading til then - if I can be of use, let me know.
I think I've got a wheel bearing to do on my Vitesse, but will be confirming that tmrw morning!

Re: Mercedade's '98 Vitesse in BRG
I have to say i never found the headlamps to be dim, i had some vectra c's before and they have very bad beams. (the electric head lamp leveling switch is not set on 3 is it??) I think it's compared to the Galant - it had tiny looking lenses but a really impressive throw of light. Rover-wise, I rem...

Re: Mercedade's '98 Vitesse in BRG
I need one or two or a set for my Mk1 SLi if you could be persuaded to part with them :D :D Funnily enough, that was exactly my original plan when I bought them - fit them to the Mk1 SLi which I then sold 4/5 weeks later. However, winter use on the Vitesse is what they'll be used for I'm afraid.
