Hi, new owner in Peterborough
Hi everyone,
I don't know why as I've always loved and owned my MG's I suddenly find myself with a Rover! No MG badge! Must be an age thing
Anyway I've bought myself an old 'F' plate 827 Vitesse Fastback with the 2.7 Honda engine. I always liked the look of the fastback and now I have one. She needs a bit of TLC but i'll get there with the help of a few of you on the forums
Hopefully i'll get to meet up with some of you at the shows planned for 2016
Cheers
Chris

She needs a bit of TLC but nothing too major. Interior is fine. Rolling project

Welcome aboard Chris! Talking of shows, you're in the right place for the BLMC/BL National show in august - just down the road from you at Ferry Meadows!
Sure i saw your car on ebay recently, in Essex i think it was? Nice looking beastie and good to see another 827 Vitesse safe from the scrapyard!

Welcome to the forum
That is a stunning car! Unusually for aftermarket rims they look great. Fastbacks have always been my favourit design shape for the 800 and series 1 in Silver or Black is just perfect, they have a huge amount of road presence. I am a Coupe owner now mainly because I could not resist having a Diesel Coupe, But have owned three Fastbacks over the years.
Is that a wood rim steering wheel?

Hi Lads,
thanks for the warm welcome. Sorry for the late reply I was trying to log into the forum using my email instead of username, doh!
Yes it's the one from Ebay in Essex, Brentwood to be exact. It's been stood for a little while so i've got it booked in for a bit of TLC at BB motors in Corby who specialise in MG/Rover this week.
The full stainless exhaust makes it sound awesome and whilst not heart stopping the performance is ok (I do have a 320BHP Chrysler 300c aswell!), It has Pipercross induction kit too.
I think there are some usual issues with it, the coolant expansion tank seems to leak from the cap, think this may just be a cap (please not the head gasket!!!) but I also now have the warning light on for coolant on the dash even though i've topped it up over the weekend.
I'll definitely be taking it to a few shows next year and our local MG/Rover groups will be seeing her next weekend
regards all

Re: Hi, new owner in Peterborough
The expansion tanks are a real common cause of issues, your leak could well be from a crack in the tank itself. And I've found new replacement caps are so badly made they are almost service items. You'll have to do something REALLY nasty to a honda V6 to blow a gasket or anything else really.

Re: Hi, new owner in Peterborough
A Volvo 16psi cap is a straight swap for the expansion tank cap and in fact, the Volvo expansion tank conversion is well worth doing. You can buy new pattern Volvo expansion tanks for about £20 and either use the Rover cap on them or buy a pattern Volvo or Rover cap for a few quid. The tanks are very prone to cracking as Tom rightly pionts out hence the Volvo tank being used instead. I've had one on my Sterling for something like 6 or 7 years or more now, maybe closer to 8 years with no problems at all. You need to extend the hoses and make a bracket but other than that it's a straight swap.
About the same time as i did mine, a guy called Paul Kenny in Australia did the same thing on his 827. He did a write up on the internet before i did though but his worked fine at least until he sold his car (he had health problems i belive and had to either downsize his fleet or give up driving) so if it works fine in Australias heat, you shouldn't have any problems here!
There's a sticky thread about alternative expansion tanks if you have a look in the tech section.
