Quick update,just changed the cts with no difference so nipped to rover guy and showed him the relay which is on the slam panel and he said that was the one so he took the plug of crossed two of the points on it hey presto fan worked so he said I need a new relay so will look into that if available or second hand,also he noticed a hissing by the throttle body which turned out to be the vacuum pipe to the turbo waste gate had blown of,two sec,s an it was back on,thanks for all your help guys and I am still after the sills if simon has any

Relay part number is YWB10043, available from Rimmers for £16.82 + postage. Hope this works for you, manually crossing a relay does not necessarily mean its the relay at fault, there could still be an issue from the secondary feed from the ECU via the CTS, thats what we found on Steve's anyway.

What Dave said ^^^^^ - shorting out the relay contacts only proves the fan is capable of running, it doesn't prove the control circuit that powers the relay coil.
If you want to try one without shelling out Rimmers prices plus postage, here's an identical one on fleabay for £6 posted :

I had a brand new one of these in the garage from when I put xenon bulbs in the mg as the cable was burning out for the lights so I got a couple from a local auto factors so I swapped it over and spoke to the auto spark who lives round the corner he said he will test it in the shop for me,so I let the car Idle for about 20 mins but it wont go above the middle temp so still don't know if the fan is cutting in.

You need to point one of these at the thermostat housing to find out what the temperature is :

It sounds like although it's getting up to temperature, its cooling system is efficient enough that it doesn't need the fan as yet but probably will come the summer.

Hi again ,just a quick update took the car for a spin yesterday and parked up and left the engine running and after about 10 mins the temp started going up and hey presto the fan kicked in,on the gauge in the car it was just getting up to the last mark before it goes to red so this I presume is the kick in point,anyway it cooled the engine down and it settled at the half way mark again.Also I got the relay tested and it was switching fine so that's a spare as the one I put on seems to be working fine.I am still interested in buying some sill's if simon has any available,thank's again for all your help

To confirm you've fixed the problem and that it is not down to the fact you got it hot enough I would put back on one of the suspects components and do the same run and leave for same period to see if gauge and fans do the same. Repeat process with second item.
If you achieve the same result with both items the problem still lies at the CTS as as Dave posted earlier we went to the moon and back solving mine and was the CTS even though i had purchased two new ones. The fans should come in before the red line as you have a two stage fan. one to keep temp at operating temp and the second stage at full power to bring temp down on overheating.

Hi all,managed to get a brink coupe tow bar at the weekend but am a little confused as to fitting,there are 2 plates about 12 inches long with a number of holes in them where do these go if anyone can help,also there are 4 spacer's that need to go somewhere.The other thing is the definition of a removable towbar,do the removable one's have a locking in pin and a key to lock and release or are they called that cause you only have to remove the 2 bolts that fasten the ball hitch to the main tow arrangement.Also there is a guy says he has an electric kit part num YWJ10021 which he says supercede'sYWJ550,it looks the same but the parts I got with the towbar have a beeper and another small board with what looks like two small relays,any help would be appreciated(the coupe just sailed through the mot with just a few addvisories and I was impressed with the 230 mile round trip and only used quarter of a tank,at one stage I had to put my foot down to get the needle to move of the full mark after 70miles,well impressed)Dave.

The plates go inside the boot on the floor, they should have lugs on one end which bolt to the rear panel.
The spacers sit between that plate and the towbar once it's slid in from the rear to replace the crash bar.
The 2 bolts is standard, not like newer types I'm afraid. I had one fitted on a saloon and could never be bothered to remove it.
No clue on the wiring changes. The standard Rover kit should be plug and play into the rear wiring. The other wiring sounds like it will be generic towing kit.

Thanks for that reply about the tow bar ,sorry it took so long to reply our internet crashed last week and only just got it up and running again,will probably get an auto spark to do the elec's, thanks Dave

Mind you, last tankful i used on my Coupé i did about 240 miles on just shy of £24 worth so i'm not complaining!
