master cylinder resevoir seals
Hi, I've got a slight leak between the m/cylinder and the reservoir, I presume it just needs new seals, can anyone tell me either what size they are and/or where to get some.
Thanks
Russ

This lot might be able to help Russ :

Alternatively you could try Rimmers but i would guess they would be NLA or only available ith a complete master cylinder. Also try some MG-F/TF specialists as that uses the same master cylinder. However if yours has ABS then you will need the ABS related parts from the MG as well.

Re: master cylinder resevoir seals
Thanks Dave, have already tried Rimmers without success, will try Bigg Red next. I'm curious about why I would need MG-F/TF ABS parts if I used MG-F/TF seals?

Re: master cylinder resevoir seals
Sorry Russ - i didn't make that as clear as i intended! If your car has ABS and you need a new master cylinder, it must be for (or from) an ABS equppied car (whether it's an 800 or MG-F/TF) as the non-ABS master cylinders aren't compatible and vice versa. Does that make a bit mroe sense?

Re: master cylinder resevoir seals
The 800 has the same master regardless of ABS so a seal kit will fit all.
Well it did on all the ones I had anything to do with.
I did find however find that there are two different types of slave cylinder for the 827 but that is down to the bore size on the union and nothing else. don't know why they done these things but I suppose its to waste money and bring the demise of the Rover dealership closer to its end.

Re: master cylinder resevoir seals
No it doesn't!
Why are there 2 separate part numbers for ABS and non-ABS equipped cars for the master cylinders and also for the seal kits which are obviously different as well?
Don't believe me? Then check here :
http://www.rimmerbros.co.uk/Item--i-GRID004413
Also slave cylinders are only fitted to drum brake systems, not disc brake systems so i don't know how you found slave cylinders in the brakes of an 827!

I've done a few posts today and gone completely off the beaten track and gone to clutch systems instead.
My mistake.
I haven't even looked at your link. i don't need to, I'm already aware that brake masters are different depending on whether ABS is fitted but not on all Models of 800 I'm sure.
Not that I've checked, but i would asume there are single part numbers for certain years of production perhaps where ABS and non ABS equipped 800's used the same Master ?
In fact, I'm certain I've swapped over a cast brake master cylinder from a non ABS Mk1 827si to an ABS equipped 827sli

Re: master cylinder resevoir seals
It was always an option in the early days except for the Sterling which got it as standard. Later models ended up with it as standard i'm sure.
The Mk1s got the Bosch ABS-2E system whereas the Mk2s got a later Bosch version with built in self-diagnostics. Either way a different master cylinder was used if the car had ABS to what was used if it didn't. Interestingly the Volvo 740 that also uses the ABS-2E used the same master whether ABS-equipped or not and the front sensors on the Volvo are the same as the rears on an 800 but with a different connector plug on the end.
