Mk1 820 coolant pipes

Post by mjc9967 » Wed Jul 11, 2018 1:16 pm

I believe there are 3 different metal coolant pipes, interested in all 3, in particular the long straight one that runs across behind the radiator (DCP7094). Prefer new.

Thanks all

I think they're all NLA now Mark, secondhand are going to be dodgy because they're steel.

I've got a length of 15mm copper pipe with a Yorkshire fitting on each and a bend in the right place, painted black with a pair of rubber lined "P" clips for 15mm pipe and a spacer to stand it off the cross member.

Painted Satin Black, it's impossible to tell the difference except it won't rot out and the brackets are slightly different. Identical brackets could be made from copper sheet and soldered onto the pipes if you wanted the exact appearance. :D

Dave

Hmmm, wonder if there’s a place that could do some fabrication for me? Any issues fitting ends into hoses.

My mind was starting to turn to getting them made, problem being not knowing anywhere for that

Friendly local plumber?

The Yorkshire fittings on the end are sometimes also referred to as solder ring fitting, they have a swage on each end for the solder to run into inside the join which gives a swage on the outside of the fitting as well which is something for the hose to grip onto.

That should explain in one picture more than i can in however many words!

Given you've got 3 cars Mark, it might be worth your while investing in a blowlamp, flux, solder, a bending spring, pipe cutter and some 15mm copper pipe and a bag of fittings. :D
