Sixth Light Finisher

Post by Fastback » Tue Nov 27, 2018 10:27 am

This is probably a super long shot but does anybody have a near side 'sixth light finisher' for a fastback please? It's what I would call the rear quarter light trim. My Vitesse has a leak around said window and the glass needs to come out in order for it to be rebonded properly. However, removing that trim, even with the correct tools in going to probably result in breakage. Somebody though might have been better/luckier than me and got one out.

I think I have solved a leak on the other side with 'Seek and Seal' but this side has too big a gap.

Cheers.

Inside or outside trim Mark? I have neither but it might be helpful for someone who has so they can offer you the right bits of trim.

Have to confess, i thought the 6th lights on fastbacks were like the coupe side windows, unbolt from inside and the outer trim comes away with the glass.
Cheers,
Dave

So yes, it is the interior trim that I need and has to be removed before I can gain access to those nuts. There is definitely a risk of breakage, much harder to remove than the A or B pillar trims.
And just to be clear, it is a MK2 version that I require.
Thanks.

Something that will help Mark, especially at this time of year is a fan heater. Put it in the car before you start aimed vaguely (but not directly) at the trim in question so that gets the majority of the heat but not enough so it deforms. That will make the plastic more pliable when you come to remove it and less likely to break and as an added bonus, you won't freeze your bits off while doing the job either! :D

Dave

Not a bad idea and definitely worth doing. Still filled with a overpowering sense of forboding however :( , and would like to have a fallback postion. There are still fastbacks being scapped but try to get anybody to get this sort of part, no chance :x .

Sorry, can't help you with the part.
However, I do like the idea of Seek-n-Seal. I have a few things I could use that on, and not all 800 related!
primary use is going to be that really awkward and annoying panel join on boot drain chanel on the Coupé near the rear window

I think the approach would have to be "gentle but firm" with removing the trim as well Mark - too easy to go in aggressively where you'll almost certainly break something (including your ego - been there, done that, T-shirt etc!) but use some wide spatula like tools to ease the trim away and you should be ok, ease a bit at the top, move down, a bit there, further down and so on.
Cheers,
Dave

I do have trim removal tools, little plastic crowbar type things with various pivot points and reach. The problem with the trim is it has specific points of spring clip attachment which are much deeper into the trim than the 'A' and 'B' pillars, so not near the edges where you can get good leverage.
I can't have the leak, so it has to be done...

Don't think you can get 'Seek n Seal' anymore but maybe this is similar.
