Door Mouldings needed for 91’ Tickford

Post by STERLING_ROVER » Sat May 04, 2019 7:46 pm

Hi, Does anyone happen to have the following rubber door mouldings for a 1991 Rover Tickford?

I think these are the part numbers
DGC10034 Front doors
DGD10032 Rear RH door
DGD10033 Rear LH door

Thank you for the help!

Is this the sort of thing you're after Jason?

https://rimmerbros.com/Item--i-DGD10034

The Tickford as we know it this side of the pond is an 820 Turbo, a run-out model using a Janspeed turbocharged M-series 2.0 engine, bodykit and interior/handling upgrades by Tickford - this was never a USA model as far as i'm aware.

Any parts these days for the Mk1 are scarce and i'm guessing the rubbing strips you have are intact but faded or the insert strip has faded? Many people have replaced the insert only to freshen up the look of the rubbing strips.
What exactly is the problem with yours?
Cheers,
Dave

Tickford trims are the same as any late MK1 with the Rover kit fitted.

It's not the black trims you're thinking of Dave.

Pic for reference.

Thanks Chris, the one linked to above is what came up on RImmers when i entered the part numbers the OP gave. I'm still wondering how a Tickford got to the USA though! :? :?:

Dave

Thank You Dave and Chris for responding!

Yes I have a 1990 and 1991 Rover Sterling 827 hatchbacks that have these Tickford body kit door mouldings. I am undergoing full body and paint restoration on my 1990 and several of the rubber mouldings have damage.

Here is a photo of the 1990

Nice looking cars! What sort of damage do the rubbing strips have? I've got a couple of ideas that may help as finding any replacements is unlikely.
Cheers,
Dave

Hi Dave,

The mouldings have tears and gouges and one is torn in two pieces. Might be an option to 3D print replicas if no one has any good used or new ones. What are your thoughts?

Thanks

I'm not sure 3-D printing would be any good Jason, as far as i'm aware, the printed items tend to be rigid plastics but in fairness, they may have developed a method of printing 3-D polyurethane so the item is flexible when finished.
My ideas for repair centre around cold-cure polyurethane, something from this range :

https://www.mbfg.co.uk/polyurethane-rubbers.html

You'd have to make something to use as a former/mould with a fill/vent hole uppermost as the mixture is liquid when first made. Pour it into the gouges/holes, allow to set, remove the mould/former and then trim whatever excess crept into the fill hole with a razor blade, scalpel or similar.

For reference purposes, the Shore Hardness they use to describe how it sets relates roughly in the following ways :

Shore 65 = normal car tyres and most road use supension bushes
Shore 85-95 = "fast road"/performance suspension bushes

Not sure excatly where rubbing strips would sit but they've probably gone a bit hard over the years. You could always 3-D print a mould for the PU rubber and create complete new rubbing strips as well.
Cheers,
Dave

This post has been on the forum a few days Jason, there might be a few Mk1 bits that would be useful for you if you click his ebay link then "Sellers other items" :

He may even have some of those elusive rubbing strips! :D

You're welcome Jason, the other thing, have you tried Dale Charles aka https://www.sterlingfixer.com/

May not be the cheapest option but there's a good chance he would have some.
