Driver's window switches
Would these be of any use to anyone?
Confession time - I don't know what works and what doesn't, and I don't know which ones are Mk1 and which might be Mk2. These came as a stash, but when I've plugged them into my car, the results are...erratic. Some do nothing (the two on the left), the middle three operate fine all except one window (a different window for each pack, helpfully), and the two on the right worked fine. However, I've not been able to get the mirror adjuster to work on any of them (including the one already fitted to my car), but that could quite easily be my car's problem and not down to the pack. Similarly, based on past window performance, I'm not 100% convinced that my real problem isn't my fusebox.
Other than the cost of postage, I don't want any money for them BUT I do want something in return - I only ask that you send me one fully tested and fully working one back (I'll cover the return postage). I don't even care which colour casing it ends up in.
So, if you've got a car which you can test these on, and are handy with contact cleaner and/or solder for any that might need it, I reckon you could tidy these up and make a bit of cash. I find it hard to believe that two of the switch packs are utterly, completely dead, which suggests something more simple, but I suppose I'm possibly talking nonsense.

Re: Driver's window switches
Deal! Sending you a PM now Adrian! I've developed an idea for repairing these but so far haven't tested it out as i haven't wanted to potentially sacrifice a working one. That said my idea has a very high chance of working and staying reliable until the replacement contacts wear out. A lot of the troubles with these are down to the solder joints on the pins for the multiplugs but i will reflow them with leaded solder in any case.

You know Dave, I'd secretly hoped/expected that you'd be the one to go for it!

Re: Driver's window switches
It's come at just about the right time for me as well, recently bought a new soldering iron/station with some very fine bits and temperature control which will make life easier!

Re: Driver's window switches
Sounds suspiciously like dry joints in the pins for the multiplug Dean - damnation and buggery to the EU that made us use unleaded solder!

Re: Driver's window switches
I came across a collection of these today also, again not able to confirm if any working or not but happy to supply FOC for cost of postage.....
I'm thinking it might be good to get a supply of tested working switch packs in a central point...

Re: Driver's window switches
I'm quite happy to be that "central point" Ian and possibly do a similar thing for fuseboxes as well.
If you PM me about the switches you have we can sort out P&P etc

Re: Driver's window switches
Door switches are a pain in the proverbial. I drove for 20 mins today in the rain with both front windows down because they wouldn't raise. In my frustration of getting wet I walloped the switch panel, something cracked and the windows suddenly started working. They will be remaining up for the journey home!!!!

I'm not surprisedCHR15E wrote:They look familiar?mercedade wrote:
They are your/Mike's old ones from when I collected a stash of spares. It's part of the reason for not feeling comfortable trying to sell them. It felt more appropriate to let as many people as possible benefit.
