Froze by backside on Saturday trying to work on mine. One of my bloody wheels was glued on and took three quarters of an hour to free off. Then, with my longest bar and considerable weight on the end, the hub nuts would shift at all. Can't afford an impact wrench that does 300 lb/ft so off to the garage it is
At least I know the parts are good and the right price, shame I couldn't actually fit them!

Always a good idea to have a smear of copper grease behind the wheels to stop that.
Or what I used to do on scrap cars was to loosen the nuts half a turn and then drive it moving the steering wheel a lot. They always came free then.
I don't find my impact gun moves them anyway TBH. I use a 3/4 drive bar and socket and then usually a 5 foot pole over that. Once it's cracked then I use the gun.

Stupid thing is that wheel had been off recently for tyre fitting. It's had a good greasing now. I'd been donkey kicking it and wacking it with a hammer wrapped in a rag, then I tried wedging a brick between it and the curb and dropping the car down again - it didn't care, in the end turning the wheel to full lock with a quick drop did it. Stupid thing to waste all that time on.CHR15E wrote:Always a good idea to have a smear of copper grease behind the wheels to stop that.

There's a big difference in impact guns, the £80 kind only do a bit over 100 lb/ft - with a good grip I can do that with one hand! After that it's anywhere between £200 and £500 The biggest bar I've got is 1/2" drive and I haven't got a scaffolding pole so I'll just have to surrender I reckon. I did think about pointing the bar forward and down then driving the car forward.. slowly..CHR15E wrote:I don't find my impact gun moves them anyway TBH. They way I see it, they book says they should be put on at 300 lb/ft - therefore with a bit of corrosion you're looking at over that to get them off again.
How come they require that much torque when a lot of other cars use half that? Some Hondas included!

Copper grease and ABS-sensors aren't very good friends. And they are rather close, so be careful.CHR15E wrote:Always a good idea to have a smear of copper grease behind the wheels to stop that.

Fair point, never had any problems though. The Flying Dutchman wrote:Copper grease and ABS-sensors aren't very good friends. And they are rather close, so be careful.
Use it on the bolts for the brake carriers as well, so even closer.
