827 Valuation/Possible Sale for Parts
Alas my lovely old G-reg Rover 827 saloon has probably come to the end of its drivable life. And through no fault of its own I might add! (Door driven into by another vehicle so neither door nor central locking working…).
I can’t imagine it would be at all economic to fix (although do correct me if I’m wrong!) so I’m unsure about if I should sell it for parts or have it scrapped and I also need to agree a valuation for it in its previous state.
As a careful driver I’ve only been pulled over by the police twice and both times it was the same lovely traffic officer who gave me a flyer for the Rover 800 enthusiasts’ club! I’m hoping that this is the right place to post for a little advice on both valuation and what to do with the car.
The engine is v reliable (can’t recall anything requiring fixing since I got it I 2007) and was driven a couple of times a week until last week. There is a new-ish battery & tyres but headlining & body work are not great at all. Usually passes MOT with minimal fuss and is currently MOT’d until end of Feb I think but obviously wouldn’t pass with door in current state.
Any thoughts much appreciated!

Welcome to the forum. Would you like to post some pictures? You'll have to post them somewhere else (photobucket, flickr) and link to them.

Thank you!
Good plan. I don't have any pics of the damage so I'll try to get some when it is light and I'm not at work.

Well i think most of us know the lovely traffic officer in question responsible for pulling you over!
On a more serious note, how bad is the damage and would another door be enough to get it fixed?

Easy repair, if you can get hold of a door.
Has that one got the Persian blue leather and dash?

Re: 827 Valuation/Possible Sale for Parts
It has dark blue velvet upholstery and matching leather(ette?) dash. Headlining aside all upholstery in reasonably (very?) good condition for age, one tear to carpeting in driver's (or could be passenger's - I use mats and this happened before the last owner got it) foot well only.
I checked one Rover specialist place about the door who said MG Rover factory have no stock so it would be a question (presumably?) of second hand door.
Was trying to make a mental list of all other things that would need looking at (in an ideal world/so could be honest about passing on).
Electrics:
Driver's window - motor sounded fine but raising mechanism not so (lowers fine), less relevant now though
Sun roof - not working (not investigated at all as little call for it)
One rear/front set of lights - occasional intermittent dimness, seems to go away if clean all connections
Motor for heater - squeak (I believe this originates inside the motor unit which would need replacing, worse when damp)
Central locking - obviously drivers door but others dubious pre-accident, I usually use the key, remote probably just needs new batteries (I have a new human baby so car neglected this year)
Windscreen wiper motor - intermittent wipe temperamental since replacement by garage I tried (only the once...) when previous mechanic retired
Body work:
Driver's door - as seen
Passenger side - long scrape (stationery Rover/moving bus incident, surprised car came off so well)
Advisory on the MOT (March 2014) - Body has slight corrosion
Mechanical:
One air vent (driver's) stuck in 'open' position
Advisories on the MOT (March 2014) - Nearside front Track rod end ball joint has slight play
Advisories on the MOT (March 2014) - Structure has slight corrosion
Advisories on the MOT (March 2014) - Exhaust has a minor leak of exhaust gases
Advisories on the MOT (March 2014) - Offside front shock absorber has a light misting of oil
Advisories on the MOT (March 2014) - Oil leak (actually I don't agree with this, checked regularly and not required topping up since March so not a very big leak anyway!)

Nothing you have mentioned is beyond the scope of a reasonably keen DIY enthusiast but from your post I gather that you are either not too mechanically minded or too busy with humanoid parasite to tackle the car. In which case you will need to post pictures for a valuation but off the top of my head anywhere from 120 – 250 in the condition you describe.
