For those of us just coming out of hibernation, just to confirm that there are still some sets of of sills available. I'm thinking of sticking them on the eBay, albeit at a higher price. Don't worry though, those on the forum will continue to get preferencial rates.

These sills are damned fantastic. Drivers side fit went really well. Despite the MASSIVE corrosion inside.
Car still has to have the passenger side done. Other things have taken a priority.
It will be worth the wait. After all, its a V plate Nightfire Fastback Vitesse!

I would love to. Getting them made in smooth plastic I think would be preferable, it is just the size and the complexity of the compound curve which makes it prohibitively expensive. Last time I checked they were going to be £100 based on 50 units. And of course, unlike sills, mk1 and mk2 variants differ.
I'm sure at some point there will be suitable forming process that will be affordable but the question is, will there be any cars left for them? Seriously though, it is still on my radar but other issues...

It's been a while, can't remember if it was that or vacuum forming, compression forming or whatever. I did look at three or four methods and for some it was making the mould/computer model that formed a large part of the price.
I recall injection moulding was going to be too expensive as you need two sides of the mould plus hydraulic pressure. With vacuum forming you only need one side of the mould provided that the two faces are symetrical, which they are on the scuttle panel. So thinking about it, it was probably vacuum forming that was looking more affordable.
