Re: Brand new headlamp covers
Sorry for lifting this ancient thread but what do you think is a fair price when selling headlamp covers today?

Re: Brand new headlamp covers
Holy thread-resurrection Batman!
Are the missing/broken bits in the part designed to protect the headlamp lens itself Henrik or more on the clip part that holds them on?
As for price, no idea, i suppose it's what someone is willing to pay? I do have the beginnings of an idea though.

Here is a better pic of the missing piece. I’ve circled the whole area with a thick line and filled in the missing piece with a thin line. This part is where it sits under the bonnet. Probably they were once jammed between bonnet and front, splitting it. I dont think it would be noted when attached and bonnet closed.

Re: Brand new headlamp covers
That looks like it's cosmetic more than functional where the bit is missing Henrik. That means they would probably still function perfectly well as headlamp protectors.Manalishi wrote: ↑Wed Jul 03, 2019 8:26 amThat’s very cryptical Dave!scoobyh123 wrote: ↑Tue Jul 02, 2019 10:13 pmHoly thread-resurrection Batman!

The beginnings of my idea are something along the lines of making a piece the correct thickness/shape then once glued and smoothed to perfectly match the original contours, make a mould in silicone or similar and use a clear casting resin to create duplicates.
Alternatively, if a clear filament could be found for a 3D printer, someone with a 3D printer could reproduce them. Whether there's a market for it or not is another matter though!
Like i said, only the beginnings of an idea!

Re: Brand new headlamp covers
At least no one can accuse you of having no ideas Dave! But I don't mind helping out if someone wants to have them for reproduction. I presume they are rare then!?scoobyh123 wrote: ↑Wed Jul 03, 2019 8:51 amThat looks like it's cosmetic more than functional where the bit is missing Henrik. I don't think I want to give them any work really and I don't think they will ever be fitted to any my cars ( I have 4-5 spare headlamps) so they're really for sale. I have a tonne of spares/junk for my both 800s and my two Austins so I need to start getting rid of some of it.
Silly question, I guess they fit both mk1 and mk2?

Re: Brand new headlamp covers
They are fairly rare for one fairly obvious reason - not many people wanted them originally. When the car was new and insured without a thought to the cost of the insurance and the roads were much better back then, the chances of a stray stone flying up and breaking the headlamp glas were minimal. As such, many saw them as "just for posers" so not many were sold. Rimmers don't have a listing for them so whatever stocks they had (if any) have obviously long gone.Manalishi wrote: ↑Wed Jul 03, 2019 9:12 amAt least no one can accuse you of having no ideas Dave! These days most people have got spare headlamps so they are, once again, mainly for posers or those of us who want to protect our headlamps from the multitude of stray stones on the roads.
That's why it's difficult to try and put a value on them.
