The icons suggest he has tried to upload pics, without success. Definitely send him this way. From what he says it will need work just to pass an MOT so its value currently will be very low indeed, possibly less than the cost of the ferry tickets.

Thanks for the interest, I had looked at the rover800 .info forum previously and again before putting this ad up but there is no way of putting an ad on there without registering and the registration requirements dont seem to be welcoming if you just want to advertise a car and I didnt want to start making up an 800 loving profile to join, dont get me wrong I do like the cars and do think this one is worth saving if I had unlimited space and funds I would probably keep it.

I have a 1980 280zx datsun too and joined up on zclub, there is a similar feel on there to "non convert outsiders" and a reluctance to allow full access to the forum, I only mention this because there is discussion on there to non member advertising and thoughts of somehow charging, on there you can register as a site member for free but need to pay a subscription for full access. Just mentioning this because I was happy to pay their joining fee and would have paid an advert fee if could have done on the Rover forum.

I assume the ebay listing will get a mention by someone on there it did the last time I put it up but I cant access "the ebay and other ads section" on there now, please feel free to mention it and as I say in ad I am happy to talk to anyone with an interest in the car the price on there is just because I have to put a price on it but I woulod rather it had a good home than be scrapped, but it is still on the Isle of Man at the moment so I cant give it away.

Apart from a bit of rust here and there, some corrosion on one wing, the car looks pretty straight, the drivers seat looks good and it has a non-leaking trip computer. RARE. YO.

Its worth about £250 in that condition and theres around £600 worth of work there to make it legal. Minimum.

when was the last time you saw a Mk1 Vitesse on the roads? We bleat on about 800 cars not being worth a lot or as much as cars from the same era. Moan about classic status yet when one comes up for sale very few positive comments?

Although there is some work required to get this car back on the road I certainly don't think it would be too much. Yes a £1000 seems a lot considering you have to spend a few quid to put right but give it 5 years and that grand will seem like small change for what will become an even rarer vehicle on out roads. I for one would have been interested had I not already got one on the go of restoration.

Its certainly worth a lot more that £250. It is only with the passing of time can we realise what should have been done and regret that we didnt.

I bought one, in a far far better condition than that, for £310, it was on the mainland and it had an MOT. When I came to sell it on, the only person interested in it was Alex, who kindly let me part exchange it against a Vit Sport.

Just think before you post, this car needs a lot of work doing to it, unless you are able to do it all yourself, you are at the mercy of a garage, who lets be honest charge the earth for anything these days. Let alone some real work like this.

As the car has no MOT it'll need towing or trailering back here, a further expense and have you checked out the cost of a ferry ticket? The Steam Packet is not exactly 'value' priced, its about £150 each way. So there is a further £300.

Its all well and good suggesting premium prices will help entry to classic status but I can see that car remaining unsold in 28 days time with him threatening to scrap it.

The seller said in the advert "I have put this on at the price I have just to get it advertised, I am very negotiable on price depending on the deal". So the £1000 which you say means the seller is "having a laugh" is wrong to knock. It's a good tactic.

I advertised a Mark 1 Sterling at £6995 three years ago just to attract enthusiasts to see it was a decent ship and for sale. I got £4200 for it. Which was fine by me.

As Steve G says, when was the last time you saw one. Their rarity will push up values, obviously. I think £1000 is ok, actually.

Benny, you sound a bit like Deano which is rather concerning. Soz mate, but the days of £100 Mk1 800s with full Tax and MOT are fast coming to an end. People are starting to realise the rarity of these things and soon they will start commanding higher prices.

Yeah, so the car needs a bit of work, thats for you to negotiate with the seller. As for travelling expenses, thats the potential buyers problem. I've seen people asking for £xxx amount of money off "because they're coming for farawayshire" even without seeing the car first. You may aswell just ask the seller to give you the car for free, or present him with a bill for your overheads

That 827 Vitesse you bought was some years ago. I also bought a Mk1 Sterling for £Very_Cheap around the same time, I couldn't buy the same car now for the same money in all honesty.

They can (and will) command a higher price when the condition deserves it. I seem to recall a lot of Brad's '4 figure cars' being IMMACULATE, both mechanically and bodily. This isn't and needs a fair bit of working doing to it to get it through an MOT and some more to make it mint.

You have both missed the points I was making, by asking such a high price he will get next to no viewings and almost certainly no offers. Which means he will then roll out the 'I'm now scrapping it' threat and we'll have the same old ridiculous farrago we had when that guy was selling F300 (Alex's old Sterling). I think as tactics go its about as clever as the one RBS made when it bought ABN AMRO (that was overpriced too IIRC!). But we will have to agree to disagree on that.

What I will concede on, is that he appears to be offering to deliver it to the Ferry ports of Lancaster or Liverpool and I am sure that if a member of this forum was interested in it (you never know) that Mal would be more than happy to provide a fair trailering quotation from there back to the new owners homestead.

I am not sure what Deano has said but I haven't said anywhere that I would expect to be able to get an 800 with full tax and MOT for £100. Mine was £310 with no tax and some MOT left (2 months IIRC) and was a wonderful machine, I really do miss it.
