820 Vitesse Coupe - R852 XNT

Just spotted this coupe on eBay:

According to the details one of only 500 2 door coupe Turbo specials built with only 3 left that are registered

Advert states "It gets a lot of attention, due to the fact it is a 2 door coupe which are rare enough, but a Turbo Vitesse special is the rarest of the rare !"

I think I'd be nervous about driving it any distance until that 'creaking' is resolved. Balljoint? Fix it.

Agreed. A very tidy engine bay along with good looking bodywork.

Personally I dont like the rear spoiler on these cars but each to their own.

Shiny engine bays worry me A LOT. A steam clean and some back to black can hide many ills. I'd much rather buy an honest car with some dirt and leaks. It is a T series after all.

You would not want a car from me then Tom as all my engine bays are polished to an inch of their life and with shares in back to black,gunk and the like :lol: I just like to look under the bonnet and see a clean engine bay plus it help on spotting those inevitable leaks that we can get from time to time

As an owner and enthusiast, fine. We obviously like to keep our cars in good condition. But when buying a car car from an unknown source, an engine bay that shiny with the faults that are described makes me a bit "twitchy".

Agreed, and what would we do with our weekends if the engine bay was already done for us.

the 2nd picture, the reflection off the boot very glossy, reflection off the rear quarter very orange peely, reflections never lie, also in the pics on ebay, the passenger side front wheel looks like it sticks out a lot further than the drivers, maybe just the shot angle, but the tyre looks to be out further than the bumper corner.

also i can't remember vitesse turbo coupes being a ltd run of 500, my dp had a night fire s reg coupe vitesse turbo as his company car.

There were no Coupe Vitesse Specials or any limited runs of 500 of any Coupe. I suspect bar room experts have re-written that the 563 Rover 820 Turbo of 1990/91 vintage are to blame for this inaccuracy that has now passed into folklore. You could however argue that all Coupe's are special I suppose, not because of the looks or even because Clarkson liked it in his Top Gear test from 1992 but because of circumstances that allowed it to be built at all, it so very nearly didn't happen.

Lots of mi-information in the advert: Lotus used the T-series? The engine was de-tuned during development to avoid embarrassing the KV6 (despite the T-turbo being launched 5 years before the KV6)? Etc.

I would regard this as being a project - despite looking tidy it needs some suspension/steering and a gearbox rebuild.
