I was a bit disappointed when I saw the pictures, as I need a new shed and when I saw the item title thought. "Fantastic, thats just what I need".....

Re: Never used 820 engine
I'd say that if you know what your'e doing with stripping an engine down then it would be a reasonable punt at the right price. BUT it doesn't look as if it has been reasonably well kept over the years so I'd be expecting a few problems, maybe even seizure. Look at the rust on the top cover. That would be enough to put me off.

Try these people for a shed Kate :

I recently ordered a shed and it should land on wednesday so i can tell you more then but their prices seem pretty good. You'll have to find your own engine to go inside it though!

Re: Never used 820 engine
Did Lotus use an M16 in anything? I'm sure Morgan did, but Lotus?
The testing thing is interesting too. Could this be one of the fabled 16v O series rather than an M?

Re: Never used 820 engine
I could be wrong on this (and probably am) but i thought Lotus only ever used the K-Series in things like the Exige, Elise etc. - i didn't think they had ever used the O-Series or the M or T either.traineefarmer wrote:Did Lotus use an M16 in anything? I'm sure Morgan did, but Lotus?

I know Morgan used a twin cam 2-litre in (i think) the 4/4 but i was under the impression it was a Fiat engine (131/132 Mirafiori perhaps) and not a Rover unit.
As for the "fabled 16v O-Series", isn't that what they redesignated the M-Series after testing? It certainly looks like one the way the bores "bulge" in the side of the block and have the ribs between the pots and it seems to have a belt guard on the back end of the inlet camshaft which is where the drive for the power steering pump was on the early M-Series.
I remember reading somewhere (think it was aronline) that the O-Series came about when they tried to make a diesel version of the B-Series which is why the ribs are on the block. Being the mid-60s or thereabouts when they developed it, they went overboard with the strengthening which is why it was so easy to "dieselise" the O-Series later on which gave the Rover 2.0 diesel, later on the L-Series and also the Perkins Prima, all pretty much running on the original design.
Still doesn't answer the question though but hopefully a bit of interesting waffle there!

Re: Never used 820 engine
There was definitely a T series Morgan, not so certain about the M.
I read on another forum about some prototype M series heads that were found damaged in a scrap yard. Apparently they were obviously pre-production and were incompatible with an M block. The only conclusion was that they must have been some sort of missing link between the O and M.
Errors and omissions excepted, it was a long time since I read about it and I google cannot find it for me now either.

Not sure about the prototype M-Series heads in a scrapyard but have a look at this :
http://www.aronline.co.uk/blogs/cars/mo ... -o-series/
Now compare the castings in the ebay listing (particularly the 3rd pic where it's easier to see) with the O-Series engine in the article. If not the same, they are scarily similar. It also gives a more detailed (and probably more accurate) account of how the O-Series came to be from the B-Series or the B-OHC as it was called "in house" for some time.
Can't as yet find any references to prototype M-Series heads in a scrappies but i'll keep hunting.

I'm pretty sure that Morgan used the M16 engine for a while.
If this is a twin cam O series then it must have some historical value

Re: Never used 820 engine
The biggest hindrance to any 820 engine running is management problems.
Make of that what you will!

Re: Never used 820 engine
Morgan definitely used the 820 Rover engine in their +4
I know because I used to have one (it was a selling point for me)
