Re: Mark 1 turbo diesel?
Very rare these days as they weren't common new.
I had one 12 or so years ago. Not a bad old thing, not fast but still did 40+ MPG at 70+ a bit MPH.
Can't see many people loving them as a classic though?

Re: Mark 1 turbo diesel?
I didn't think there were any 825 diesels left (except TARA) and especially Mk1 versions as like Chris says, they were rare when new. Back in the 80s, people were still wary of diseasels (and rightly so IMHO) so they never sold in big numbers. Besides, if you were buying a Rover 800 or anything like it, generally speaking it was for the smoothness and refinement amongst other things which you wouldn't have got from a glorified tractor engine.
Granted diesels have come a long way in the past 30 years but to me there will always be something unnatural about compression ignition engines and because of that, diesels can never achieve the clean burn of spark ignition engines.
That said, the VM unit isn't bad, i've never owned one but they seem to last well.
