That's some description!

It's certainly a very clean car but far from the most desirable combination of colour etc IMO.

Definitely (not defiantly as used by the scribe of the description!) a lengthy description! This snippet made me laugh as well :

"None of these face lifted cars, lunched during the nineties," The Mk1s all ate a hearty lunch during the 90s then? :?

They also mention the reserve is a four figure sum rather than a five figure sum - what's the betting the reserve is £9999?

On a more serious note, first thing to do for any new owner would be to change the water pump, cambelt, tensioner spring and possibly the tensioner as well. That cam belt has potentially been on for 30 years ish and was laid up for 10-15 years from what i can work out from the listing.

Now watching it with interest, it should certainly make a pretty penny! :D
Cheers,
Dave

Lovely car but all that second hand car salesman speak would stop me going anywhere near it, shame. Hope the original family got a good price for it.

The Doctor is a bit of a "legend" in some classics circles.

He's well known for this type of time-warp restoration - and that is what it will be, a cosmetic restoration.

His attention to detail is amazing, he must have an industrial scale case of OCD and so are his write-ups.

It will be interesting to see what it gets to money wise. If you have seen some of his previous auctions, he has always managed very good prices for his spotless examples of everyman modern classics. This could be a good one for us to show to insurers.

Worth every penny as well. Where else could you find such a rare example with such low mileage. I hope we get to see it in the flesh at one of the shows, but I doubt it.

I think that this will go into someone's private collection and not be driven on the roads again which is a shame but how else would you preserve such a beautiful car.

Yes cars are for driving but they are art in their own right so to have and just to look at, I can understand the concept.

Only 11 quid to go before hitting the magic 10 grand. Seems i was wrong on my tongue in cheek guess on the reserve but not too far out, i think it was £9499 or somewhere thereabouts - at £9401 it still hadn't met the reserve, next time i saw it at £9801 it had met the reserve.

There's still a few days left on the bidding (3d 9h as i type) so it could still do anything. :D
Cheers,
Dave

It's hit the reserve by "bidders" so I reckon that's it for the bidding. I could be wrong but going by what others have said, then it wouldn't surprise me :P

Still a lot of money, I think, for a car that is, I concur, in a genuine condition yet is of specs that are not the most desirable ones.
A friend of mine bought an 827 Vitesse about a year ago that had been in dry storage for almost 20 years, and genuinely had 4,800 kms on the clock. Bought it for about £4,000...which proves that there are still true gems out there than can be found.

The Docs previous cars are subject to plenty of discussion. Long and the short of it is he employs shill bidding then offers the car on a second chance to the highest legit bidder.
Whilst it is indeed a superb example it's not the right spec for the price it's "bid to".
Having said that though it's generated a huge amount if attention in the classic car world which has to be a good thing for the model.
