Non Profit Scanning of Rover 800 35mm film, APS & Slides

Post by TheVDM » Sun Feb 10, 2013 9:51 pm

I would like to offer a service to members of the forum for scanning Rover 800 negatives/slides to CD only for the cost of return postage (not fussed about profiting here).

I have been working on and of in the photography and printing industry since I snagged a job with 'Picture Management UK Ltd' back in 2002 (some of you who do track days may have heard of them) and due to my love of photography I have acquired some fairly decent scanning equipment for 35mm film, 35mm slides and APS cartridges and I do few scanning jobs around my day job.

If your interested send me a PM and I will forward the details.

As a non profit job it may not have the quickest turn around but I should be able to return within a week unless it's a big batch.

Also in case any of you have been using a brownie I haven't got any scanners that will scan 120 roll film (yet).

If your interested in the scan quality here are some samples taken with one of my Sony UY-S90's 35mm Colour - 35mm B&W (18mb TIff files)

So no drum scans of 10x8s then ?

Seriously, this is a great offer for those who haven't got the time to do it themselves or don't have access to scanning equipment.

Kudos !!

Thank you, unfortunately I haven't got a drum scanner or a wet scanner, there a tad beyond my financial reach for now (I will keep on dreaming).

Even in the lab that I work in they only go as far as a kiss im1500 pro, although they keep threatening to remove it along with our c-41 film processor in place of some fancy HP dry lab.

I used to use a lot of Ektachrome 200, a nice balance between fine grain and speed (400 was always a little grainy for me). My Dad used to process it at work along with the large format stuff.

Jim that's a great offer and I'm sure that it will be of use to people on here. Thanks.

I rarely shoot colour film these days (the odd cheepy kodak maybe), I live on a range of European low ISO B&W films and if it ever gets sunny I load my duct tape covered EOS 10 with some infrared film and dig out the R72 gels.

I often get funny looks from guests who peek inside my fridge, the top shelf is dedicated to photographic paper and 2 of the door trays are crammed with various 35mm & 120 films, and occasionally a block of cheese.

I hope so, I imagine with the 800's having been about since the mid 80's there will be many forgotten negatives that haven't seen the light of day for a while, it will be interesting to see some of these car's in their younger days.

I shot my last roll of FP4 about two years ago using my T90. That was in my fridge for about 14 years. I still love that camera and I have the data back (sadly no data lead though) and 300TL flash too along with three or four FD lenses.

I regrettably sold off a load of my film cameras last year to fund a 5d MKII and since then I have shot far more on film than digital, even at my sisters wedding after Christmas I managed about 200 photos on the 5D followed by a bundle of black and white films. I'm quite liking the Minolta X-300 that survived my big sell off though.

It's topic resurrection time again :)

I've just read through the above post and wondered if you can scan microfiches? I do have some Rover 800 series fiches as well as some other interesting fiches. I do have a fiche viewer myself but I know not many other people have and wondered if the scans would be any use to other members?

Thanks for reading :)

Microfiche is a little on the small side for many scanners. Are these on sheet or cassette ?
I've got a Canon microfiche unit in my office at work so perhaps I could take photographs of the screen ?
Depending on the number of photo's required it may take a while.

I have tried this myself Gordon and it is quite a job to do. To start with it is is the glare from the screen then from a typical set of 4 fiches you would be looking at 120 photo's as there are approx 30 individual page on each fiche.

I do believe that there are companies out there that will transfer them onto cd/dvd but not sure on cost. a good old google search should provide details though. Now this raises the time old question about if we were a club then a purchase by the club for it's members would be spot on.

My apologies for not responding sooner, seems the notifications for topic reply may have adopted the great tradition of Rover and headed out for the picket lines. If my fiches could be of benefit for the club for scanning then I'd be happy to lend them to whoever is getting it done.

Hi,

I no longer have a Rover 800 but I do still have the scanning gear, although some of it has changed a little. I no longer own anything that can scan APS cartridges but I have added some extra gear for scanning medium format and even 8x10 plates.

If you're interested in getting them scanned the offer still stands and I'd be happy to do them.
