I don't think many were made Jim. I remember seeing one in 1990, same colour scheme as that one and i'm sure at the time i was told it was a development model.
However as the magazine article is dated 1988, either it's not the same car as in the article or by coincidence the same colour car was used for the one i saw.
Either way i expect your best bet to find out how many were made would be to contact Janspeed.

The boxy Mk1 saloon design is looking good with age, one of these Janspeed cars could be quite a find if one ever turns up.

If there was only one made Jim it would be an amazing find! Have to agree though, the Mk1 is wearing its years very well and i'm sure the Mk2 will wear them just as well in a few years time.
Certain cars still look good no matter how old they get - Rover P6, Mk2 Jags, Series XJ Jags etc, i suspect the 800 is destined to be included in that sector when they're a bit older.
That said the oldest 800 is now the same age as the youngest Series XJ6 (although 6 years older than the youngest Series XJ12) so why shouldn't they be included now?

right guys, i bought the magazine with this feature in, the janspeed car was a one off, and unfortunately it got written off within a couple of years of that, i cant remember who told me bout a year ago, but he had something to do with recovering it to janspeed, it was hit badly up the ass if i remember and janspeed broke it for spares, i think it was a janspeed managers company car, but i could be vague somewhat , but he was sure it was dead.

That's interesting Matt - sounds like maybe Rover got Janspeed to build one to see if it was viable and do the development work then produced a kit of bits for Tickford to fit with their extras for the "factory" 820 Turbo.

may of been dave, i was cheesed off when the guy said it was dead, id love to have found that 2 tone turbo with the kit on, cos it looks the business, put some deep dish rims on and it would have looked real good.

don't get why janspeed didn't just get an 827 and slapped the turbo on that, then they would have had a proper quick saloon , they got the best part of 50 brake more, imagine that on the early un catted 827, 180 boosted easily to 230 brake, maybe a bit more, now that would have been a real flyer.

mmm, in the pics it looks as though its shadow along the bottom, but I'm sure I've seen a different pic of it , and it was duo tone or as english people say 2 tone.

Funnily enough Rover called it "Duotone" when they offered 2-tone paintwork on Mk2b cars - someone on here has some colour charts i think.
As for the Mk1 820 Janspeed Turbo, assuming it's the same one i saw in the flesh in 1990 then it's definitely not two tone.
