What I've been up to

Post by CHR15E » Sun Jun 02, 2013 9:55 pm

It's been a while since I've put anything up. So I thought I'd add a couple of pics up of my current stuff/projects.

I went through a lot of cars last year, several Volvos, a few Jeeps, a couple of Ford Explorers (don't is my advice) and even a VW Sharan. Wasn't as good as the Espace (shed).

I've slowed down this year, got rid of a lot and somehow ended up with only 2 cars.

I still have the V70R I bought last year. I even washed it the other week after my brother refurbed the alloys. Still needs the interior finishing though. It has a mixed black and beige setup at the minute.

I also have this newer V70 as well. It was my dads and was bought last year just before we found out his illness had become terminal. As such he never properly used it unfortunately. :( That's life I guess.

Being honest while it's a newer car and has better spec etc than the older V70 I have. I prefer the older car. A lot like how I felt with 800s, preferring MK1s. It's also automatic so doesn't do it for me. I'm thinking of selling it but at this minute I have no idea what to replace it with.

Image

I still have a thing for trailers. The 800 trailer has been untouched for a while now. Just used and then stored. The Espace trailer had been moved from garage to garage and never finished. TBH I was in two minds what to use it for. So I've settled on just tarting it up to use for shifting stuff around.

It's not pretty but very useful.

That's it these days.

Apart from my other having this, though she hasn't passed her test yet.

Hi chris like the of your v70r always fancied one of these when they came out but with young family at the time, deep pockets and short arms. yours does look nice though. have you found any issues ala 800's or are they pretty reliable? Here is a nice little project for you as you are keen on cutting things in half, how a bout something like a mk2 800 two front ends put together. i have seen this done on other cars but not on a 800, that would really turn folks heads going down the road

I'm sure I saw one on here from an art student a month or so ago, I'm pretty sure it was a double fronted stretched Rover 800, but I can't seem to find the thread, either that it's the medication playing tricks on me

All cars have their faults. There's a list of common stuff on these like anything else.

I bought it by accident really, I went through a few V70s last year after liking a 2.5 non turbo I bought to use as a shed. This turned up on ebay and went cheap so I bought it. It's chipped, so it goes better than a standard one too. 8)

Not fussed on joining two cars together. I did always fancy making a stretched fastback. That won't happen now though, while I miss knowing all about 800s and having a pile of spares I don't miss the cars at all, yet. Well apart from the noise of a V6.

The newer V70 looks a tad bloated as compared to the cleaner lines of the earlier one, especially the extended grille. I suppose they thought it gave it more presence, much like Rover did with the Mk1 bumpers (although I do prefer the larger ones myself).
Glad to see you back too.

It feels better built and more solid. A bit like how an 800 coupe does over a standard 800 I guess.

But it does nothing for me. It's a good wafter but not a drivers car if a Volvo ever can be such.

Whereas I prefer the look of the newer one, it seems a bit more 'Swedish' to me and the rear half does seem to remind me of the original 240 Estate whereas the predecessor was just very boxy.

Loving the Espace-trailer. I imagine it was harder to do as the top half is plastic?

I like boxy. :D

The trailer was easier as I put less effort into it than the 800 one. Had I done it to the same standard then I think it would have been harder I guess.

The shell does have a metal frame. It's the outside skin that's plastic.

It did make fitting the roof rack tricky though. :D

Hi Chris

It's me again. Glad to see you're doing well as you've not had a great time, I know.

I hope things continue to go in the right direction for you,
