Peugeot 306 running issues

Post by CHR15E » Tue Feb 11, 2014 5:33 pm

I put this on a few Pug forums the other day and got little real help, so I thought I'd ask here. :D

We've had the car ages ready for my other half taking her test. Typically the other week it starting playing up. It was misfiring slightly so I fitted new plugs, reset the fault code (P0200) and away we went.

It seemed ok, it's not in daily use. I take it for a spin now and then as like I say it's been waiting for her taking her test. After using it again the other day it's creeping in again. Slight misfiring at low revs when accelerating.

So after a search on Google I decided to get a coil pack for it. I checked which it needed and ordered one off eBay.

I fitted it the other day and it's running rough. The management light is flashing and showing codes P0200/P0300.

I checked it 3 times for location and that I hadn't missed something.

I gave up and refitted the original and even after resetting the codes and having the battery off over night it's still the same.

I've since revved the arse off it and it seemed to get better and actually ran perfectly. Though after a cold start it runs rough and the light's on again. But sometimes it will settle again. Has to be something daft?

I'd like to try and get it something done so I can sell it rather than scrap it as it passed it's MOT the other week with no issues at all typically.

'er indoors doesn't trust it anyway and we've replaced it with an Astra now.

Any ideas folks?

I would have said coil pack but you have changed that so pull the plug on the ecu and check the pins for corrosion also what new plugs did you put in hope this helps

I had a similar thing on my boy 206 and that was the coil pack.
The RAC fitted it on the motorway and reset the dashboard light.

Then charged me £95 for the privledge :(

I would say that wasn't too bad for the alternatives ....................

have you checked the mass air flow sensor? these can become dirty and need a clean. You can do this with brake cleaner/carb cleaner just don't touch the filament as they are very sensitive and can break easily.

Assuming it's a petrol injection engine, could it be a faulty/dirty injector? Alternatively, a dirty throttle body?

Steve - I don't think it'd be a dirty MAF issue due to the code being P0200.

I did initially think throttle body but remembered a similar problem we had with my son's first car, a corsa. Aaarrgh. Haven't got my code book to hand all packed away Doh.

Done that mate actually. Thought I'd have a look just incase. They're NGK ones from memory.

I haven't but it's on my list now. :D

Injectors are I the list of the fault code it's showing so it's a definite possibility. Down side is I have no spares to replace them. So I will never know as I'm not spending more cash on it.

Doesn't have any Rich, it's an all in one coil pack that sits over all the plugs together.

Now you're asking. I think but not certain they were champion plugs.

I'll take a look what's in this Astra we've fetched as they use the same and I was going to fit the new ones in it.

sounds daft I know but pug engines are really choosy it has to be a certain plug bosch and the coilpack has to be oe there was also I think a suppresser fitted to stop interference and misfire
also check the wires going to the injectors if you run it then wiggle the wires see if you get any changes

I had read about plugs.

I'll check locally for the sake of £10. Then see what it does, thanks mate.

The Saab 4 cylinder engine has that - it's infamous for causing problems, especially aftermarket ones. The genuine Saab/GM ones are eye-wateringly expensive.
