Seans Dad's Old Jaguars.

Post by Seans Dad » Tue Feb 03, 2009 11:10 pm

Just a few of the Jaguar XJ's that I've owned over the years.

My first one was this 1990 XJ40 4 litre Sovereign, owned in 2004;

Image

I then owned this 1992 XJ40 3.2 litre Sovereign, finished in Flamenco Red;

Image

Image

In 2007, I bought this 1995 X300 4 litre XJ6, an ex police car, which I owned together with my MK1 Rover 820si;

Image

Image

My last Jaguar, was this 1990 XJ40 3.2 litre, with a rare manual gearbox, and finished in Regency Red, and I only sold this two weeks ago;

Image

For now, my love affair with Jaguars is on hold, but you never know what is lurking around the corner!! :lol:

I have also owned three Ford Scorpio Estates, the later "frog-eye" ones, including the awesome 24v 2.9 litre Cosworth engined example, which I may post pics up if anyone shows any interest!

Yes Richard, they were all short lived I'm afraid.
The first one got written off by some prat reversing into it outside my house; I'd only had it six months.
The second one decided to break it's gearbox after only six weeks of owning it; I changed the 'box myself, but I'd lost heart in it after it being off the road for so long.
The third one, well, I was stupid and sold it on for no particular reason, and bought a Vauxhall Vectra instead!! Like I said, stupid!

And the last one was a £100 cheapie bought from a friend as I needed a car urgently; I was intending to keep it and tidy it up, but the work required was far bigger than my bank balance would allow, so I sold it on, for £375, so I got something out of it after all.

One day I'll buy a car and KEEP it!! I'm really hoping that the Rover is this car.

This was my daily driver for about 5 months. 4 litre Sovereign - non of the mods were mine, but it kept people interested at least!

Image

By the time i got rid of it, she belched out blue smoke if you accelerated hard (and had a terrifying problem with the brake pedal going rock hard and pulling to the right very, VERY hard) but loved it whilst it was good.

And Richard, this is why i have so many Jag spares knocking around - if someone has a use for them, let me know!

Lovely X300, the 4.0l like you had were the ones to get, actually better fuel economy than the 3.2 because the engine is doing lower revs. Good mechanics in them cars, bordering on legendary. Not so for the pre 01 XJ8's.

The colour is Diamond White.
It's a poor quality picture taken with a rubbish digital camera, add the fact that it was getting dark too!

I used to get roughly 28-30mpg on a steady run in my X300, compared to 24-27mpg in my 3.2 XJ40- the 4 litre is less stressed than the 3.2, so doesn't have to work as hard, hence the better fuel economy. We won't even bother with the 2.9!!! (sorry Rich!) :lol:

I agree, the AJ16 engines in these cars are damn near bullet-proof. My X300 was an ex-S.Wales police motorway car, and has well over 200,000 miles on it, but it never felt like it to drive it.
The early AJV8 engines in the X308 XJ8's used Nikasil liners in the bore, and constant stop/start driving prematurely wore them out, but there are plenty about with 100k plus miles on them that are still going strong.

But for me personally, a proper Jaguar=straight six engine. :D

Aha, that's it. I had seen a similar colour on a series one, but never on one of the later models. You fooled me there. :lol:

Yeah, although that was pretty tatty. I'd been reading around about how much things like the front splitter were going for and had mine not:

a) been filled with seemingly hand-rolled lengths of fibreglass, and
b) painted by a six year-old

i might have been tempted to split them. However, they'd done things like paint in red over the 'XJR' inserts on the side wraps, but so badly it looked like it'd been done with a 3" wall brush!

Glad you liked it though - it was a brief indulgence for me.

I am something of a specialist and continued to develop the old 24V engine.

They are a total sleeper but my work is resulting in power figures of ...WAIT FOR IT......between 380-to near 500bhp on ATMO

They are a totally understimated engine, MUCH better than the Honda V6 in fact which I also own. :(
