My Mum's new Clio - Now Kia Picanto

Post by CHR15E » Sun Oct 16, 2011 6:20 pm

After a lot of deliberating and looking at this and that it was decided to stay safe and replace the old Clio with a newer one.

So as usual nothing was around at the time of asking and purely by chance talking to Rich C I showed him this one which I'd dismissed as it was in Wales.

After looking at it properly via Ebay of course. I decided to go for it.
I was the high bidder but it didn't make the reserve so I contacted the seller and came to a deal.

Here it is, it's not mint but it's generally tidy, just has a couple of bits that need TLC.

These are the bad bits along with a couple of marks on the front bumper.

My brother will be sorting these in the next few days/weeks.

Door rubbers are common wear points, get one from a passenger door and turn it round

They're great cars - my father in law has just sold his after about 6 years of near faultless service (sticking rear brake mechanisms and a worn seat bolster were about the only issues in that time - both easily fixed).

That does look tidy in those photo's and the few marks it does have are to be expected really, living out in the sticks like the previous owner did it going to have a few battle scars after a few years. I think you got yourself a bargain there.

All being well.

She uses it for the first time tomorrow for work. So the next few days/weeks will be the test.

Well that certainly flew by!

My Mum had itchy feet ever since buying this, she never really took to it. So in the last few weeks we've been looking at replacements.

This is what she's ended up with. It's a 2013 Kia Picanto 1.25 2 Automatic.

It seems Kia's have come a long way in the recent past? It's a nice little car and has all the gadgets she's bothered about. It's a mid spec car, the higher level includes heated seats and steering wheel amongst other things. It's done a bit under 13000 miles, so with the 1500 or so she does a year it should last a while yet!

These are the only pics I have so far due to her working hours and the weather. The number plate was my dads that he'd had for years, bit of a personal thing for my Mum as it would have been his birthday today. I used the online service for swapping it so it was all done and dusted in a few minutes. Been using it for V5 transfers too when anything's been sold. Very handy aside the limited hours of use.

If I'm right in thinking, this model Picanto, has the same chassis as the Hyundai I10 which I have (i10 just recently facelifted, 17 year).
But the Hyundai is slightly less than 1.0 litre. Both cars come very well kitted out, and yes they have come along way for build quality in a few short years. Hyundai make very good engines themselves now, I don't think they borrow components off anybody unlike 20/30 years ago, when many components/engines body/chassis came from Ford, Rover, Mitsubishi, possibly Subaru and others.

Yeah, the article I quickly scanned through states the shared platform. Kia is part of the Hyundai business. The Kia brand is abit like Skoda within VW, more or less as good as equal partners in car building in many areas, but slightly cheaper to buy.

Learn something new every day as they say. I was aware of the Hyundai/Kia link but hadn't looked into it more.

If it was something I was buying I would but for my Mum as long as it works she's happy.

Well I suppose if your mum is happy then your happy! I have had my I10 (15 reg) two years by end of March and it has now done nearly 21000k in that time, racking up miles between various places included the A64 to Stamford Bridge where I worked at Rosti Automotive for 5 months, and the car has been totally reliable, very comfortable and refined. The 3 cylinder engine is like a mini V6 in that respect, and modern convenience with Bluetooth makes life easier. Though sadly it does not have DAB unlike the MG3, but maybe the new model 17 year does.

Something like that yes. :)

My Mum doesn't do much mileage at all. About 1200-1500 a year usually lately and that includes travelling to work 4 days a week. :D

In all honesty I would hope for what little she does it will never need anything other than maybe tyres eventually.

We'll see how it goes I guess.

You'd only see the trailer these days if took a pic facing the other way.

Times have certainly changed on that front. It was only 6 months after getting the Clio I decided to sell up.
