New guy here
Hi all!
Thought it would be best I introduce myself to you lot, as no doubt I'll be needing your help sooner or later!
My names Jason - thus the username...
I'm 22 and I'm from Birmingham.
My current cars are
1987 nissan micra - daily (it's going tomorrow but I'll explain shortly, as to why)
1999 Rover 200 BRM - project (currently locked in a garage undergoing a fairly extensive restoration and an engine conversion)
1999 Discovery 2 v8 - runs on LPG and it still costs a fortune to run! Useful for moving stuff around, like dogs.
I've had the micra for 7 months as I bought it for a stop gap car, to take over whilst I carry out the work on the BRM, this has however turned into a MUCH bigger project than I anticipated. I'm struggling with the Micra as it's just a little slow, lacks comfort and only has 4 gears. So this is being collected tomorrow to make way for an 800 which I pick up Saturday.
I've never been in an 800 - to be honest it's rare I see one! So when it came up for sale, I had a good chat with the owner and decided it would be ideal for me. The insurance is very reasonable too!
I'ts an 800 coupe turbo, in Arden blue. Around 80k miles with plenty of T&T.
I'm not really sure what mod cons and stuff it has, but my dad tells me it comes with all the gizmos such as heated seats, cruise control etc... Sounds like a blessing!
I'll post some pictures up shortly, although I've only got the eBay ones until I make the long trip upto southport to collect her
Look forward to getting to know some of you - I'll be attending POL (as every year) as it's about a mile down the road from me.

Welcome Jason, cant recall a colour called Arden Blue so some pics would be good. Used to own a BRM too many moons ago and do own a Discovery 1, albeit in diesel form, still costs a fortune but mainly in bits that break!

I think that the coupe Jason has bought is Cayman blue and that it was advertised on ebay. If I recall right it had the mouldings and bumpers painted in body colour.

Re: New guy here
Thanks for the warm welcome, all. I’ve been having a little browse and I’ve learnt a lot about these already. Been reading some reviews on them too, all positive (Thank goodness!).rovercoup wrote:welcome to the site Jason and good luck with your purchase. I recall seeing the car on ebay. I think ‘Rovercoup’ may be correct in it being Cayman blue, my bad.dollysprint wrote:Welcome Jason, cant recall a colour called Arden Blue so some pics would be good. The Disco is a brilliant car, Although the V8 isnt cheap to maintain either (unlike the good old Rovers). I’ve just had to buy a new prop shaft at a sting of £300 right after Christmas. I could have done without that
Thanks vito wrote:Welcome, what you doing to the BRM ?
The BRM is having a T16 Turbo engine fitted, although I’ve been told (by a LOT of people) that they handle really poorly afterwards, with lots of understeer. I’m doing my one ‘properly’ and I want it to handle as well as standard so I’m working hard on distributing the weight correctly, Lightening and moving parts which I can. I’ve managed to get hold of a carbon fibre bonnet and bootlid in the right colour so that will help. The suspension is going to be difficult though as the dampening rate on the BRM is almost perfectly linear, whereas aftermarket shocks and coilovers are far from linear.
Also having a full respray, spruce up etc… All work is being done by yours truly.
Think you’re correct, Anyway – Enough about me… here’s the car in question!rovercoup wrote:I think that the coupe Jason has bought is Cayman blue and that it was advertised on ebay. If I recall right it had the mouldings and bumpers painted in body colour.
I have no plans at all on modifying this… I’ll fix any issues it does have that arise in the future though.
From what I know, The driver side window switch is faulty (apparently common).
Also, I’ll be on the look out for a standard airbox for the car. I don’t like cone filters unless theyre absolutely necessary. Given the positioning of this one I cant see it being of any benefit except for noise. The standard intercooler wouldn’t be able to compensate for the extra hot air either, I wouldn’t have thought.

I have seen this advertised, so it will be interesting to hear what the car is like and what you think of it.

Hi Jason,
Good luck with the 800 and the BRM.
I was down at this place about 6 months ago http://www.chestermgroverspecialists.co.uk/.
Aside from being a decent, if small, Rover/MG breakers, the guy who runs it is also restoring 2 BRMs. He's a friendly, knowledgable guy - if you're in Southport, it's not too much of a deal to swing by if you needed anything! Definitely worth calling ahead though, just to make sure he's about.

Re: New guy here
I've met Gary a few times... Speak to him on a regular basis.
He's actually sold one of his BRM's now, so down to one.
I got my engine for the BRM from him, amongst other things in the past - He's a top bloke!
I think he's actually in the process of becoming an X-Part dealer, so should be expanding a little in the near future.

Agreed. I had been watching that car on eBay, and the thing which interested me was any material change in condition since those photos were taken over three years ago.Simon Hubbard wrote:I have seen this advertised, so it will be interesting to hear what the car is like and what you think of it.

Re: New guy here
Are you saying it was advertised 3 years ago with the same pictures... or? I've got all the photo's saved on my phone so if its not in the same condition as the photo's describe I wont be paying the full asking price.'CHARD wrote:Agreed. If not, How do you know the photos were taken over 3 years ago? I cant say I've looked too much into them!

Lovely car jason. I was seriously considering this one before I bought mine. The 400 mile round trip put me off and I found something more local. I'll read your posts with interest to see if I made the right choice.

Re: New guy here
I think what Chard is saying is if you look at the 1st photo it is date and time stamped 02/09/2010 so the original photo is from 3 years ago, that is not to say that the car has not been kept in the same condition as when the photo was taken. As with any distance purchase if it is not as described you can walk away.jasonmayall wrote:Are you saying it was advertised 3 years ago with the same pictures... or?'CHARD wrote:Agreed. I hope it has kept tidy as it does look nice but I personally prefer the black mouldings and black on the bumpers, however saying that my coupe is black and you can't really see the difference from distance.
