Just watch the sunroof area, mine is bubbling from underneath but it's not that bad really. I've a decent rust cleaner by Bilt Hamber and once I've got rid all I need is a good anti-rust treatment preparation before I repaint. Is yours flame red ?

I would say that the secret with sunroof protection is to remove the headliner and sunroof cassette and then attack the rust from inside. That way both sides of the panel can be protected.

Sorry for ot-questions but... What years were these manufactured? Were they ever made in LHD?

I remember when my dad bought an Audi 100 in 1987 (I still have it) and we kids really wanted him to go for the Audi 200 with 180bhp, which was considered a monster back in those days. I was pretty interested in cars but never saw any Rover 800 until the mk2 came. What are the 0-60 figures and top speed on these according to the books?

I thought they were only built or should I say modded in 91 and 92

They started off as 820's and then Tickford turned them into a Turbo, so I doubt that any are LHD

The bonus with the Engine management is that the mapping can be changed by simply installing another chip as its an EPROM socketable chip. (programmable and removable).

Not sure how to do this but I've read they can give this engine up to 300BHP as initially designed with its Mahle forged pistons and rods, along with the sodium filled valves. I was only the gearbox that was the weak point and so was reduced to 180BHP

563 were made.

Trying to get one now is quite difficult in any condition but they do pop up every now and again.

I've never read any test figures on performance anywhere on these in fact the entire history is pretty vague.

No one knows how many are left ? the last ones at the dealers were butchered with 200 radiator grills drilled onto the bonnet to try to get rid ? ridiculous really.
Thanks. I really have no knowledge over these cars, I though they were Rover original all the way through.

I've seen one here maybe in the "spotted section, can't remember, with the grille you mention. Very odd thing to do.
Thanks for sharing!

They're basically an 820 Si, all round electric windows, mirrors and sunroof but with a seat fabric called lightning and a perforated leather steering wheel. They were available in saloon guise too but these had a full leather interior and a different boot spoiler (a la TWR style).
Apart from that, the engine management was farmed out to Tickford who also did the Maestro tuning. AR Online has a decent write up with more details. They do run a rich fuelling mix making them quite thirsty for fuel but on the upside, you can turn the boost level up quite high. I've a manual boost controller on mine which is set for a safe 10psi which is fast enough for me but I did experience 15psi for a moment or two when the pipe from the throttle body had split and the difference was like WHOAA!!.
They are rare now as a lot were broken for the engines. I think there's less than 10 on the road and a further 15 or so off the road.

None of them are Rover all the way through

They all have German and Jap parts like nearly all cars out there unless its Korean
Where is the like button? ;)

There's is a long history of Tickford modifying "ordinary" British cars - Capris, Metros, MG Maestros etc.. The fundamental parts were still pretty much as they were when the cars left Cowley.

Cool car!

Do you know how many Tickford's were produced and how many survived?

The MK1 turbo's were never sold on the continent.

563 is the generally accepted figure quoted from AR Online and I think there's less than 10 on the road and a further 15 or so off the road.
