Post by TDHFastback » Sun Aug 10, 2014 7:30 pm

I have three lovely 800's. :D

I don't need anymore. :!:

the Police car is ideal for shows. :D

I've no more room. :(

The Sterling is pure luxury and the 820Se an nice rare Mk1 8)

3 800s is enough. I'm happy with them :D

I mean, where would I keep another one? :?:

Then theres Tax insurance servicing etc etc. :x

Yep I'm happy with what i have. :D

It would just be ridiculous having any more.

Oh Knickers

Picked it up today from Ryan who was really upset to see it go but was definitely doing the right thing for the car, as he had no internal storage and didn't want to leave it outside.

Sitting on the drive I think it looks stunning.
Will post up more piccies etc once I have a bit more time. Early start tomorrow. Knickers

What is it about 800's :?: :?:

Disgraceful. Absolutely disgraceful. There can be positively no justification for buying another 800! You already have too many and cannot possibly warrant another what with the world economic crisis, ebola, Scottish referendum etc etc etc.........

Bloody well done. It looks fabulous. 8)

I think they get into your blood, I've had a few , still got the first one and after an '88 SE to a '92 Si to '96 base spec Stella with her mega miles and now Ruby.
Despite people slagging off the cars they take a lot of beating.

Glad it's gone to a good home, one of the best I am sure (home that is, as well as cars). Well done.

You have said 3 cars Kate? what has happened to the Sterling?

I am pleased for you on your latest acquisition and that the car has gone to someone who will love it, and hug it, and pet it, and..................... who will take good care of a beautiful example of the early 800.

You kept that one quiet Kate! I wondered why it disappeared from ebay before it was due to end! Seriously nice car, reminds me of my first 800, same year, engine, trim etc but mine was Moonraker Blue. Does yours have the PAS pump driven off the rear camshaft?

No need to remind you to keep it in the manner it is accustomed, i know you do that with all your cars! So when is the coupe arriving then?

Dave

Thanks for all your kind comments guys.

The Coupe I was thinking about actualy belonged to Peter Simpson from Classic Car Buyers newspaper. He tapped me on the shoulder at the BMC and said he was selling it.
I agreed to go and have a look but then spotted Ryans 820. This threw me into a real conundrum.

The Si had to be looked after, being a very rare car and I'd always wanted a 6 dialler.

Peter was about to advertise in this weeks CCB and before he did, I rang him for a chat about the car and mentioned the 820. Unfortunately he had to cancel my journey up to see the car as he was busy and the weekend went by.
I then made the descision to go for the 820 and rang Peter straight away to let him know.

He was genuinly relieved I wasn't buying it,stating he didn't really want to sell the Coupe and was only agreeing to do so, as he said he would at the BMC.
His plans are to keep the car and take it off the market.
He is really pleased to be keeping the car and was glad I didn't come and buy it.

So all in all everyone's happy :D

The 820Si will be stored in a de humidified classic car storage facility and brought out for high days and holidays as well as shows.
There some intersting features which i will post up in the near future.

It truly is a stunning car and I'm very pleased.

I think that was a bad idea tbh, I've heard of the belt jumping from the pulley if the power steering gets a sudden shock say when a wheel hits a kerb during manoeuvers.

Is that another name for a posh garage? Solves your space problem with too many cars on the driveway though and protects the Si - nice one!
I'm really pleased such a car has gone to someone like you Kate that not only has the enthusiasm and "feel" to look after it but also the ability and the means to do it.

Maybe that's why Rover changed it later but i do my best to avoid kerbing my tyres - they last longer that way and there's less risk of a blowout.
One thing that did happen a lot is the cente boss on the drive (camshaft) pulley used to wear badly causing the hole to become oval. This meant the belt wasn't running straight and quite often fell off as a result, usually when you were trying to park! Perhaps that's how the story of hitting a kerb causing the belt to jump came about?
I'm not keen on the idea anyway because if the PAS pump seizes it could potentially stop the inlet cam from turning with disastrous results!
Cheers,
Dave

I can't say how pleased I am that the cars gone to Kate, you're one of the very few people I would've trusted it with. I wasn't totally happy about listing it on ebay but it was killing me keeping it outside. I never wanted to let the car go, she was my baby but I did it out of love for the car, it just wasn't fair on it. Sometimes when you have a car as beautiful as that, you have a duty of care to preserve it and when you can't look after it anymore, it's time to let it go to someone who can :)

Alas, I did shed a little tear when I saw her go. However, I'm not totally 800-less, I still have my 825 Sterling :) i'd never be totally without at least one 800 in my life
