Yep easy to spend a few quid on wheels/tyres.

I'll be doing the same soon when I have mine refurbished.

I decided the cost of refurb was too much. Anyway, I went over a particularly bumpy bit of road and I think a rear tyre came up and said hello to the arch. I guess it's the wallowy Sterling suspension, any suggestions?

A refurb is dear, you have to like the wheels first.

How wide are the wheels and tyres you have now?

We had our 17" Vitty rims powder coated by a place in Birmingham for Â£20 a rim. Nice job too.

I've been meaning to try there, assuming the deal is still on.

Thing is I have about 20 wheels I want doing.

Not sure how wide the wheels are Chris, the paperwork says "7x17 8/100/114.3 ET38 100+" (I guess the info is in there somewhere) the tyres are 225/45/17.

7x17 is width and diameter.

Same as standard then. Tyres shouldn't be a problem either.

It could be that your rear end has gone soft.

Had new rear shocks a few months ago. Pattern Sterling, nothing special. All the tyres seem to be a little closer to the outside world compared to the 15s that were there before. I wonder if I need to get a bit creative with pliers and the inside of the arch?

How old are the springs? It's the springs that alter the ride height.

No idea - let's assume for the sake of it they are original, are they likely to be tired enough to have this effect?

Yes it's possible.

Looking the figures of your wheels they look to be very similar to the standard 17" ones. And they don't do that.

MOT time... failed on worn bushes, emissions, leaking front pipe, idle speed and a headlight bulb

Idle speed sorted by cleaning throttle body. Bushes no big deal, but pipe is a pain and they say a new cat is required (it does look very tired).

On an up note, they fitted new springs to the back and the wheels no longer seem to rub on the arches, although the acid test will be next week when my fat mate gets in the car.

Nice tidy looking car. Quite like those wheels on it as well. Aftermarket wheels usually look cr*p on 800s but those work pretty well......best colour scheme too
