1995 N 827 Sterling
Keith brought it down last night - top bloke, was upfront about how much his train ticket back was so wanted less cash than we'd agreed! And can put me in touch with someone who has a drivers seat (currently has a manual velour one) and a replacement door handle in the right colour. And was so impressed with my 820 when I took him to the station he wants first refusal (not sure he'd be so keen if he saw it in daylight - talking of which...)
Popped out now to see the Sterling in daylight. No visible rust at all apart from where the chrome has split on the radiator grille in a couple of places - might swap it out from the 820 but that's silver fins so I don't think looks quite right. The spoiler has little bits of paint flaking off (I'd rather it didn't have one). I also have a bag of bits - climate control switchpack (fan isn't working, hopefully an easy fix), and a selection of window control switchpacks for some reason including single, front window only and all windows versions. And a driver's door handle in BRG.
First job - swap IR receiver from 820 as Sterling doesn't have fob. Then replace climate control switchpack.
I'll post pictures when I've driven it somewhere nice (should be fun - never driven an auto before). By the way will the spoiler survive a trip through a carwash?

Now the sun's shining I can see some little bits of rust where paint has been chipped off (eg the boot) but nothing to be concerned about on a 14 year old car, and the rubbing strips could do with painting but they're still rather better than the Sli.
Swapped the IR receiver over - central locking problem thread started in the leccy folder!

Swapped the aircon switchpack but that didn't fix the lack of fan. Oh well, another thread in the leccy folder...
Checked the tyre pressures, they ranged from 15 to 26! Done. Time to get the camera and drive to the carwash. Have to wrap up and keep the windows open to stop it steaming up. Although not in the carwash...

The spoiler has been resprayed but unfortunately they were a bit heavy handed so there are more runs than the England cricket team, but you can only see it close up. Drives really well - love the autobox thing. The steering feels different to the 820 which you can steer at all speeds with your little finger. Is it speed-sensitive?

It is, some people like it some don't.
Personally I prefer 827 steering to that of the others. 820s etc feel too vague for me at speed.

Swapped the blower fan out from the 820 (when the one arrives from Chris I'll stick it back in). Looks fine other than a lot of leaves from the tree across the road. Squirt of WD40. Now I can drive it without it misting up.
Removed a load of fluff from the little sensor fan and WD40 it as well which seemed to have silenced it.
Someone has made a very hamfisted job of the glovebox lining and the surrounding dash involving glue which has gone everywhere including on the dash. The glovebox decided to stop shutting so I figured out the catch wasn't able to get in far enough and removed 2 little rubber thingies which presumably keep it tight and stop it rattling.
Things to do - swap CD player from 820 and rip out autochanger from boot of Sterling. Replace door speakers which are shot, bung new ones in the back as well, replace tailgate rams which appear to be completely ineffectual as it weighs a ton. Swap radiator grille, might spray the fins grey to match the car. Noticed all the chrome has come off the drivers' door rubbing strip - have to think about that.
Took Mrs Tenesmus out for a spin, she complained about how cold the seat was until I switched the heater on

Swapped out stereo from sli (sounds much better, it's a MP3 USB SD card jobby) and removed CD changer from Sterling boot. Went to swap grilles but the Sterling bolts are a bit stiff so left WD40 on them and will try on Sunday hopefully. Took the door card off to look at the solenoid but realised it was going to take longer than I thought and gave up.
Took 10 minutes to remove rear wiper blade and had to destroy it in the process. Think it was the original...
Fitted bead seat cover - a must for every Rover!
When I had the bonnet up noticed the radiator has seen better days. Might post some pics and see what everyone thinks.

Probably not. It just seems to take that long, the spoiler won't let you lift the arm up quite enough.Tenesmus wrote:Took 10 minutes to remove rear wiper blade and had to destroy it in the process. Think it was the original...
