Haven't done this for a while... couple of weeks ago I got home, parked nearby and decided to pull the door mirror in as it's a bit narrow, so down goes the window, pull mirror, push button... and nothing. Hmm. Rather foolishly I opened the passenger window a bit, and it wouldn't go up again. So there I am, in the rain taping bin liners over the doors.
Next morning it's out with the soldering iron and did the fusebox. Seems to have fixed it, but there's a dodgy connection still somewhere because the windows lose their calibration randomly. Maybe the wiring harness or plugs to the winodw ECU?
I mentioned before about mysterious coolant loss and the garage unable to track it down. Came back from Neath and the following morning there was a puddle under the car and the level in the tank had gone down an inch. Topped it up, no sign of a leak. Couple of days later there's a big puddle under the car, overnight it had completely emptied. Refilled, no sign of a leak. Went to a different garage that also couldn't make it leak (although they tell me the rad is in a poor state), but while there fixed a clonk by replacing a steering rack bracket with one that "wasn't for the car but was the same" they had lying around so I only paid for labour - and they put dye in the aircon to show the leaking condenser explaining the lack of cold air. Drove away, ordered a condenser from Arrow Radiators in Avonmouth. Next day it's dripping again! So straight to the garage and they tell me it's the rad.
Can't get a new one immediately so I bunged K-seal in and it seems to have done the trick until the rad arrives and I can get it and the condenser installed. Expensive month...
Incidentally the steering rack bracket has transformed the feel of the car - wonder how long it was bad???

Haven't done this for a while... since last time I've had the aircon looked at a couple of times and pipes and seals replaced until it doesn't leak anymore.
I drove to Ireland and back with oil leaking out the gearbox cooling pipes (didn't know it at the time) until it got so low the box started acting up. Ordered two pipes, took it to the garage but they said there was a third that looked rusty as well and they didn't want to leave it. So found the third pipe on the EPC (they all incorrectly say "not aircon" by the way) and got them done today along with the MOT... passed! Advisories on front tyre wear and lower balljoints.
Next - fit the new seats. If only to clear them out the music room that I'm installing charity shop hi-fi in...

Garage time, today it was oil change, filters, plugs, fuel injection cleaner, lower ball joints, new front tyres and stopped the sunroof sticking. £536.26. Ow, that cost more than the car.
Aircon leaking again, o-ring on a joint and none of the ones they have are the right size.
And an advisory for O/S track rod end and leaky rear shocks. Bah. Still it feels much better than it did.
What shocks do I need? Not after anything special, just a good price.

How much?
I reckon I should go into business with figures like that.
Ebay or an autofactors are your best bet for shocks. Just make sure you get MK2 ones if you find a good buy on ebay.
For sensible money you won't find much difference in them really.

I queried it and there was 4 hours for doing the balljoints, he described it as "a pig to do".How much?
Anyway local motor factors quoted £49+vat per shock, which isn't bad, but £25+vat for track rod ends which seems a bit excessive so I'll be shopping round.

What's the hourly rate for labour out of curiosity?
That is too much for track rod ends. About £10 +vat is the rate my way.

£43 ph plus vat. I've got a couple of other places to try for the track rods, failing that they are about a tenner at BuyPartsBy. The place I tried today is on the way to work so I wouldn't mind paying a bit for the convenience, but not that much!

Yes, they're 17s. My old wheels are a mess and 2 of them are leaking (one losing 10psi a week) so after a lot of hunting I found these. Trying to find ones that aren't too badboy was challenging. These are painted (apart from that polished bit round the rim) and I reckon fairly tasteful.
I found them in Halfords but they wanted too much, so went home but couldn't find them in the same colour (anthracite, more or less matches the car) anywhere else so settled for black as they were £100 cheaper. On the website order form there was a comments box so I said "I really wanted anthracite" and when they arrived today that's what I've got! Off to my favourite tyre shop and they charged me a tenner to fit them.
That lot plus tyres cost more than the car... and put the rest of it to shame.
