Thanks Dave, the plan is to get to Brands Hatch mid May.

Hmmm - now there's a thought! When i get round to it i have some Nylatron GSM, Oilite bushes and a few other bits to make the new upper wishbone bearings for the front end.
Another option for the back end could be PTFE bushes - in fact PTFE could be an idea for all the bushes.

Great work, should have plenty of fun setting it up.
That lower arm looks to have lost quite a bit of weight

Re: Re: 1994 BRG Vitesse Fastback
Dammit, really wanted to see the end bushes on the trailing arms! Only for selfish reasons, but it'd be great if you could give me a quick run down of dimensions, mainly so I can have a look for near-equivalents now that 800 bushes are no longer available.
Great looking set up there, really very impressive work all round.

Re: Re: 1994 BRG Vitesse Fastback
Thanks Shaun, I suspect it will not be the best road set up and quite a change over the previous virtually standard arrangement.
Mercedade, what is wrong with your current bushes, I think they are meant to have plenty of "give" as they are just two big lumps of rubber each side.

Re: Re: 1994 BRG Vitesse Fastback
With the aid of a lever, it's possible to move the rear wheels from fore to aft with the movement coming from the bushes. You make a fair point, and to be honest I've got no idea what the 'right' amount of movement should be, but it's something I'm conscious of.

Re: Re: 1994 BRG Vitesse Fastback
Mine does this too, yet I've previously stripped the rear suspension and all the bushes are intact. I wouldn't say they were in perfect condition, but definately serviceable. I do worry about the amount of movement, but don't want to go down the "full race" spec like Jim. Some nice polybushes would do fine.mercedade wrote:With the aid of a lever, it's possible to move the rear wheels from fore to aft with the movement coming from the bushes. Re: Re: 1994 BRG Vitesse Fastback
N/S/R suspension is now back on, still got the other side to fit but it all seems ok and the new damper and spring clear the wheel and tyre.
I have some new fancy front brake disc bells arriving in a week or so then I can get the car back on its wheels and set the ride height at the rear.

Re: 1994 BRG Vitesse Fastback
Wow, that rear arm looks really strange seeing it back on the car with no spring, a lot neater setup than the Rover job.
Turrets look good, cant wait to see what difference they make with the coil overs, excellent keep it coming.

Re: Re: 1994 BRG Vitesse Fastback
I misunderstood what you just said at first Shaun - i read it as you hadn't seen the coilover!
Have to admit though it does look odd without the "factory" spring, but a much neater job - i wonder if the front struts could be modified to fit the rear fairly easily? I heard a rumour that the same struts/springs from the 2/400 series are the same as the 800 so perhaps they could be fitted on the back end - i believe there's quite a choice in aftermarket springs for those, especially if you look for the Honda variants (Civic, Concerto, early CRX etc)

Re: Re: 1994 BRG Vitesse Fastback
Don't mean to put this down in the slightest but...
I'm not so sure that having the spring further out is a good idea.
I think there will be flexing where there was once none.
You're attempting to completely re design the rear suspension for what gain ?
You might end up actually making it worse along with some metal fatigue thrown in for good measure. Those original springs are where they are for a good reason if you care to study the box section carefully. and what you have added will in my opinion, take it away somewhere else.
Dangeroius !
Why didn't you just uprate the springs and shocks on their own ?
Hope it works.

Re: Re: 1994 BRG Vitesse Fastback
Good point about the spring relocation and i can see what you're saying. I suppose there is a reason why the shock goes to a fairly simple turret yet the spring has quite a bit of reinforcement round not only the lower arm mounts but where the spring makes contact with the body.
I suppose this will be a "suck it and see" job............
