Channel grommet is good stuff, much underrated!
Like the idea of that PAS reservoir, if you wanted to keep it original i may have a plastic one somewhere to help reduce weight.

Very good job.
The bonnet catches are the same of the Jaguar's XJ launched in 1968 !!!

The underbonnet lights on the Mk1 800 are also used on the XJ40 and the SD1 and if memory serves, the XJ Series cars too. I've also seen the same light unit on Ferguson tractors for speedo illumination.
A lot of parts-sharing goes on!

I knew that in the British Leyland group there was a lot of parts-sharing.
It is alway funny to see it...

Re: Re: 1994 BRG Vitesse Fastback
Almost every manufacturer on the planet does or did it. Rolls-Royce/Bentley were some of the worst, Jaguar ashtrays and door mirrors is just the start of a very long list i made at one point. Can't remember the rest and have lost the list (and access to the RR in question - it was ~25 years ago now) but recently found out the CPS on a Bentley is the same as used on my Volvo 760, Kia Sedona and many others. Volvo wanted ~£100, Kia wanted ~£50, didn't phone Bentley or Ferrari, bought one on ebay for ~£15 delivered!
Another incarnation of the Kia Sedona also used the Rover KV6 engine and bought the rights to the first generation (as fitted to 800s) when BMW changed everything so only parts they had control over as fitted to the 75 (at the time) would fit.
If it hadn't been for the strikes in the early 70s when the Dolomite was first made, the Dolomite would have killed the 1602/2002 and BMW with it. The 800 and 600 nearly finished what the Dolomite started but somehow BMW managed to raise enough for an aggressive takeover of Rover and killed the brand. In the 90s, the 800 was the best selling executive car in the UK and the 600 was outselling the 3-series by 10:1, the Honda Accord (Rover 600 by another name) was also outselling the 3-Series by 3:1 so it's easy to see why BMW wanted to eliminate the competition.

Thanks Lodein, Im committed to the new aluminium one now, it is quite solid compared to the standard pastic tank. Thats handy to know about the shared parts, thanks.
A few more parts going back on, radiator and fan, oil cooler, wiring routed.
I made some new shiny aluminium brackets with holes for the intercooler to replace the old steel parts and a new radiator top panel.

Thanks Marc.
I have started on a new website for my Rover, it is early days yet but I can expand and edit more easily with this new site so hope to add much more general Rover content.

Re: Re: 1994 BRG Vitesse Fastback
A bit more done to the Rover.
The recently restored bonnet catches came out so well, the latches got the same treatment, stripped, blasted and zinc plated with new titanium bolts.
Latches fitted with a new aluminium bonnet switch bracket to replace the steel part.
I finally got round to fitting the new brake master cylinder.
I had been waiting to repair a couple of rusty rear brake pipes. Because they run from the rear brakes to the bias valve under the bonnet, replacing each pipe in one piece is virtually impossible. They run inside the car so it is only last few inches that was corroded so did just the ends.
I replaced them both and they look ok

More excellent work Jim!
It's often crossed my mind you couldn't enter your car in a concours d'elegance because for that they have to be original but IMHO it should win a prize for being one of the tidiest and best (from an engineering POV) modified cars.

Thank you Dave, much appreciated. It has become bit of an obsission and it is a good job I do not have more space as I would love to own another one to keep in perfect original condition.scoobyh123 wrote: ↑Fri Nov 12, 2021 1:49 pmMore excellent work Jim!

Re: 1994 BRG Vitesse Fastback
In that case Jim, i'd say it's a pity you don't have more space! Keeping cars in perfect original condition isn't easy, especially with many parts being NLA.820Vitesse wrote: ↑Sat Nov 13, 2021 10:51 am

Re: Re: 1994 BRG Vitesse Fastback
You never know, one day.
Change of plan with the brake pipes. I was not happy with the flares to the cut Rover pipes inside the car. I think the originals must be steel and were quite hard to flare, I bought a hand held flaring tool for inside the car but it took several attempts to get a decent flare even then it was still not that great, the tool was sh**.
The new short pipes made on the bench were fine, made with a proper vice held flaring tool and the softer copper nickel pipe, they came out fine.
They looked ok and worked ok and probably fine if it were just a shopping car but I could not convince myself they were good enough.
So had these made instead "Denim" blue hoses with stainless ends
I did all four corners while at it. The fronts run direct from the ABS unit to each front brake, the rears have a short metal pipe for each side from the ABS unit to the Bias valve, these are fine so were not replaced.
Where the rear hoses run through the car I made some aluminium clamps. These are more secure than P clips and a bit more compact
