Re: Re: 1994 BRG Vitesse Fastback
Bit late but thanks Marc
By hand, starting with 40 grit emery cloth, I cut the vent pipes off to make it easier then welded them back on once cleaned up, the top flange was beyond repair so welded on a new one, took bloody ages, would have bought a new one if good originals were available.

I think the spare neck I have needs a new top flange,820Vitesse wrote: ↑Wed Apr 07, 2021 10:22 am

how did you get the new flange on once you had made it up as surely the hole in the centre for the pipe won't be big enough to slide on from either end of the filler neck?
I think the flange may be too far gone for me to be able to use it as a template, do you know the dimensions of the flange?

Re: Re: 1994 BRG Vitesse Fastback
The pipe is the same diameter from top to flange, I cut round the flange weld leaving the welded part in place then welded the new piece it. see page 23 of this thread.
For the dimensions if I remember right it is symetrical but fairly simple. Tricky part was getting it rotated to the correct position for the studs/bolts before welding.

Re: Re: 1994 BRG Vitesse Fastback
Update to the dash and electrics. Some time later it looked like below, still a mess but lots changed, wiring removed and rerouted. Where the SRS module was now mounts a new relays and fuses panel for an electric water pump for the turbo switched on the dash, NX relay moved from engine bay, interior air blower and 2 USB sockets for dash.
With the dash out I was able to remove the last of the interior sound deadening, this was a horrible job.
made a bonnet release spacer to clear the roll cage and a broken plastic clip for drivers knee panel made from aluminium
Most of the front interior is refitted along with a new passenger footplate to protect the electrics.

So some more progress. More weight saving involved more unused wiring removed from the main body and tailgate harness, rear wiper, radio, CD changer, aerial, aerial booster, HRW, rear door electric windows and lights, sun roof, heated electric seats, interior lights and more. This is some of the wiring.
These brackets for rear seat and seat belts came out too
While the rear shocks and turrets were removed I cleaned up the OSR wheel well that had some rust caused by the cage welding.

Re: 1994 BRG Vitesse Fastback
Just a thought Jim - those brackets for the rear seats, wouldn't they have provided extra rigidity/strength for the suspension turrets?

Re: Re: 1994 BRG Vitesse Fastback
I thought about that too before removing them and considered leaving part of them in place but the turretts themselves are very solid, double and even tripple skinned in sections, those brackets were quite independent and spot welded to the turrets and only in a couple of places near to the C pillar. This car also has the roll cage and rear cross brace welded to the turrets to increase strength.
The pair weighed 3.2kg.

Re: 1994 BRG Vitesse Fastback
The weight removal outweighs (no pun intended!) the removal of any percieved rigidity then Jim, good call!

Re: Re: 1994 BRG Vitesse Fastback
It is another item on the list to keep an eye on Dave.
With those brackets removed it needed painting so ended up rubbing down most of the rear interior
Painted stealth satin black, wiring looms back together and turrets refitted
Shocks and springs back in
