Epic! Fantastic work.
If you have any spare ABS sensors available, I may need some for TGMs next MOT. Please PM.

That's a LH 2/400 sensor Scott but RH 800 sensor with a longer lead! :P

I believe they still have stock of the 2/400 RH so LH 800 - i bought a pair a few years back. You'll need to be rbutal to get the old sensors out of the brackets then slightly enlarge then mirror polish the bore of the brackets and smear silicone grease on the body of the new sensor to prevent the sensor being crushed again in the future.

If it's the back ones, they're a pig! Never done one on a ROver but done a few fronts on the Volvos i've had (same sensor but a different plug) and after the fun and games to get the old one out, again polished/enlarged the hole slight and plenty of silicone grease on the body of the sensor.
Cheers,
Dave

I wanted to change the steel bolts and washers that secure the front wings to the body with something different, 7 of the 8 came out fine but one of the captive nut clips broke and dropped into the inner wing box section when the bolt was removed, there is no way to get it out or fit a new one with the wing in place.

Image

With the wing removed I can see the broken part and remove it with magnet

Image

The car currently looks like this

Image

For a 27 year old Rover with over 100,000 miles on the clock it is in really good condition.

I gave it a clean and vacuumed some greenery from a box section and it looks really sound

Image

Image

Image

The front wing arch inner edge has some surface rust that needs treating and a couple of places where the wing bolts to the body but other than that it wont need much before it can go back together

Couple of years ago I made a full size battery tray to sit in the rear footwell but for track days when the car is in "lightweight" mode I need to mount the 5kg Redtop battery, the previous mount wasnt suitable so bought a so called proper Redtop 20 battery holder.

For a item meant to be for this battery it needed some modification to work

and fitted

I might be imagining this Jim but the older Redtop batteries were taller (i think) so it's possible the battery holder you bought is for one of those.

Either way, a nice mod you've done! :D

Dave

Thanks Marc. Work has slowed a little due to the hot weather and recent jobs not very interesting so updates are a bit slow. Removing more unused wiring from the front looms, re-making some old brackets. The plastic PAS resovior has been leaking very slightly for years so looking at a replacement. Then rubbing down some little rusty areas around the front end is all taking lots of time.

That fits the RH front Scott, fairly sure they have RH front 2/400 sensors that will fit the LH front on the 800s. I bought a pair several years back and one is serving duty on my Sterling now.

Dave

Despite the car being in such great condition for its age there were a few rust spots around brackets and bolt holes in the front panels and bumper bar so these had to be repaired. This also led to more unused wiring removed from the front harness (450 grams!)

Then everything that is removed has to be cleaned up before refitting.
I cleaned and painted the bonnet catches a few years ago but they looked rough again after a couple of years so these were properly stripped, blasted and zinc plated with new springs this time.

Bumper brackets, wing fixings got the treatment too

The door top seals that run up the A pillar along the roof and down the C pillars had probably never been off in 27 years.

More excellent work there Jim! If you lose any more weight from the car, you'll be the heaviest thing in it! :P

If its good enough for Rover its good enough for me.
The original plastic PAS reservoir developed a small leak years ago so bought a universal aluminium replacement, it is heavier than the standard tank but I made an aluminium mount to replace the steel mount to compensate.

Image

The pipes come out the bottom rather than from the front of the standard tank so not a straight swap unfortunately
