Jago's 827 sterling
Hi all, I brought the sterling I went to view on Saturday, I got a few spares too. some of witch I will put up for sale on here as it's a mk2 and they are mk1 parts.
anyway the car...
faults:
variable intake not going to low rpm mode (failed solenoid I think)
going into 4th can be a little later some times than expected
reverse seams to be delayed (2-3 seconds)
rear wiper keeps going after turn off and then stops in a random position... not sure if its the motor or fuse box??
The CCU doesn't beep and doesn't seam to remember the windows after setting the high and low points (its a 1995 'N') so not sure if it should beep.
couple of patches of rust here and there.
heated seats.. not sure if on all the time or just the hot weather...
Good bits:
engine is nice and starts as it should.
cruse works
AC works
all windows and mirrors work
long life exhaust (will be replaced though)
nice colour coded wheels
plans:
replace suspension, its OK but needs renewing.
tint the rear windows to reduce the heat In the back (not really dark)
clean the engine inside and out,
maybe turbo in a year or 2

Re: Jago's 827 sterling
nice looking car except the spongo alloys, what turbo are you going to fit, not much room in there for that surely.

Re: Jago's 827 sterling
the wheels look much nicer in the flesh, the photo doesn't do them justice, the turbo will most likely be a gt2860rs but time will tell. I doubt I'll get this one to the same power as the last one

Re: Jago's 827 sterling
Nice starting point Jago.
Depending on how quickly you replace it, and of course how much you want for it, I may be interested in the long life Exhaust if it's stainless?

Re: Jago's 827 sterling
How much work is involved fitting a turbo to an 827?

Re: Jago's 827 sterling
Yeah it's stainless, it depends on funds but I expect to replace it by sept. Unless I can shift some parts to make funds
To fit the turbo physically isn't to hard, but ecu replacement/adaption will be fun,
The variable intake is the set of butterflies that move at ~3200 and ~3800 on idle they should be closed and they are 1/2 way

Re: Jago's 827 sterling
They are controlled from the right hand side on the inlet just to the left of the throttle body, the unit has 2 vacuum feeds. from engine off to running at idle they should move from one extreme to the other.

Re: Jago's 827 sterling
First time I have had to get out and play.. Found the auto box was low on fluid to tipped it up.
Didn't sort the slow engaging reverse.. Have checked selector adjustment, however I have noticed the reverse engages when the light for reverse lights up and that is also delayed. So electrical issue some where I think.
I fixed the loss of low end torque by doing a tempory vac adjustment and made it go from low to high in one go.
Next is the generally tidy up the small spots of rust I'm finding and make her breath.
Reading the old thread I will be sorting the exhaust out sooner as I can now see it's not up to my spec;)

Might still be interested depending on price when removed.

Re: Jago's 827 sterling
When would you be needing the exhaust?

Re: Jago's 827 sterling
Little update:
Fitted my head unit:) loads better now...
Found the lasy reverse is electrical, looks like the selector needs cleaning as when the reverse light comes on I also have reverse..
The S4 light is missing/not working as its flashing 12 times... So now need to find out what that is.
Got my self an oil cooler

Re: Jago's 827 sterling
so I reset the ecu's and its now loads nicer to drive, I did have to turn the idle screw after though as it was way to low after the reset, EAT error code hasn't come back so guess it was an old fault or false.
while I was playing I noticed this one has the secondary air system and EGR..
Does any one have the blanking plates? for both? I didn't get the EGR blanking plate off my old 827 sadly.
