Use Carlube ATF-U instead as it's much closer to Z-1. also Dex III is very simlar to DW-1 (Hondas allegedly backweard compatible new fluid) and if it does the same to our sort of autoboxes as DW1 has done to some i know of, you won't be going anywhere, never mid down the strip!

GSF sell Carlube ATF-U as do EuroCarPrats, both will insist it's the wrong oil for your car as they only check against the 820 listing and Dex II and Comma AQM are listed for the 820. Incidentally, AQM can give nasty results as well so isn't recommended.

Been suing ATF-U in mine for a while now and they're both lovely and smooth and select first touch even when cold. Economy is also improved on both.

Don't know why the price has come up in Euros, normally about £30-35 ish then take off the discounts (anything up to 35%) and it's usually nearer about £22 delivered.
I have done a 1/3 change with the D111, do far its been loads better, got up to 27mpg on the Gatwick runs last week, going to add the cooler soon and then do another 1/3 oil change, i'll move to a better fluid once I have used my 20L bottle up, as it was left over from my skyline. the main thing is that it has time to remove the crud in the system.

Sounds a good plan! The DexIII should at least give it a good clean out. I know of many Honda autoboxes running on the Carlube ATF-U and they all run very well on it.

Ah-ha!!! The dreaded "can-opener" effect! What box did you replace it with? I used (belive it or not) a silencer intended for a Ferguson tractor (lightly longer and comes with a baffle tack-welded halfwy down it, knock this baffle out and it's a straight through but silences nicely while giving a useful boost in power/economy) on my Sterling and for £20, i didn't go wrong i reckon!
Cheers,
Dave

Pretty respectable for an otherwise standard car, that's your base figure to compare against future mods i take it?

Dave

yes it is.

over the winter I plan to:
replace the manifolds
replace the exhaust system
replace the oil cooler
remove the EGR and air suction thing
remove the heating for the manifold and throttle body.

I will be getting a new pair of heads soon, I will then be getting them machined to a high spec than the last ones.
I am aiming for 250hp with out any aids
and then a little nitrous.

I want to see how far I can push the auto unit as I have a spare one :)

Sounds like a good point to start from, i've heard the boxes will last reliably up to about 300bhp or 400bhp in short bursts although not sure how true either figure is. Either way improved trans cooling should be high on the list!
Cheers,
Dave
