It did take a lot of time and about 15 coats of lacquer in total but the results are brilliant. I was able to put it back in the car today, it looks a million times better and matches quite nicely with the doors

Re: oops i've done it again...
I cracked on with another few bits and bobs today, gave the interior a good shampoo, it really needed it. It's amazing how much c*ap my trusty Aquamaster pulls out of car interiors, it looks and smells much brighter and fresher now
heres a before and after section of the drivers seat just to give you an idea of how bad it was..

Re: oops i've done it again...
No i've decided against 'up-grading' it, at the end of the day the fact it's a bog standard i makes it that little bit more unusual. One of my mates has been trying to talk me into replacing the wood-less rear door cards for wooded ones but I think it would be a shame really. I could always get another Sterling if I wanted to, theres plenty out there but not many i's or E's left these days. I'll be keeping it as it is

Re: oops i've done it again...
Bargain!! The old skool appearance really suits your Mk1 as well! I managed to track down one of the Rover-branded ("Premium" sound system) Clarion head unit and CD changers for my coupe, that also really suits it and the sound is ten times better than the froggy built Philips unit.

there's nothing cooler than having your mates in the car and sticking on a cassette and watching their faces when they see the spectrum analyzer dancing about lol they're all used to bluetooth and whatnot these days, so boring! 80's electronics were so much more interesting

Re: oops i've done it again...
They certainly were!!! Was doing my apprenticeship at the time and remember the day the CD system as we now know it was launched. Also coincided with the release of Dire Straits, Brothers in Arms on CD and the launch of music videos on MTV - 9th june 1986 if memory serves or i can dig out the commemorative goblet i was given by my employer as not only were they involved with the release of the CD system (developed at the plant i worked in and i even had a grimy paw in that development albeit at an apprentice level) but also the release of the 'Straits album indirectly and a few other things but it was also the official day when they reached "Zero Defects" for manufacturing quality and everything else.
But as a part of my hobby and college work i was often playing about with LED bargraphs to make spectrum analysers of the sort found on stereos although i was also playing with an instrument called a spectrum analyser at work. Did much the same sort of thing but more technically for frequencies with a cool little trace (like a heartbeat on hospital kit) to show the frequencies and if they were active etc.
