I think he's talking about the 600 in the photo...

As for stupid comments, another 800 owner (not on here - I hope!) told me he would never have a T series because they eat head gaskets!

That is what I thought as the legend I believe was launched at the same time in 85/86 as it was a joint venture with rover with the 800.

I'm sure that Dave (dollysprint) will correct me here if I'm wrong but my belief is that is that they were made on the same platform and engine (c27a) it was just the exterior panels and interior trim that was different although some electrical switches appeared in both models. THE obvious difference aside from styling is the lack of a fastback version in the Honda, so similarities only appear in saloon guise.

Without sounding brisk, shall we discuss Honda's elsewhere rather than taking over poor Marc's thread?

Marc, awesome pics mate. If my Tickford ends up even half as good as your Vitesse I'll be happy lol

Having taken note of the comments about discussing Hondas elsewhere, i'd just like to add the Rover 800 and Honda Legend were co-developed largely at Cowley but for some reason, Honda "did a sneaky" and launched the Legend a month or two before the 800. Up to 1991 when the Legend grew to 3.2, they were mechanically almost identical but had already started to grow apart - for example the coupe models were developed independently of each other and in effect, Honda had the coupe in about 1988/89 so beat Rover to it by about 2-3 years.
The main reason the Legend had different panels was to make it narrower than the 800 as in Japan a car is taxed on width and keeping it narrower meant it scraped in by a doorhandle into the lower tax band.

Let's be thankful Rover saw the light and made it the way the 800 is, both the Legend and 800 are fine cars but the Legend is a very different animal although some parts are common. The 5th gen Accord and Rover 600 are almost identical from the ground up except in its hey-day, the 600 was outselling the Accord by 3-1 and the BMW 3 Series by 10 to 1 - no wonder BMW wanted to buy Rover! Eliminate the competition and get the Mini brand and Land Rover 4WD technology at the same time! It's no coincidence the BMW X5 was launched shortly afterwards!

Yes we have a lot to thank Honda for in terms of develoment of the 800 in the first place but let's not forget that Honda also have a lot to thank Rover for - a place in the luxury car parc for a start! It also turned their fortunes around as they were beginning to fail as a car maker through not having the market presence they needed - Rover gave it to them.

Anyway, back to the main topic of the thread - Marc that's a lovely looking Vitesse you have there! Full credit to you for all the refurbishment and restoration work you've done on it, it looks fantastic! It's the first time i've read this thread properly and i wish i had read it before for many reasons! I'm sure there are bits i've missed but i'm impressed with your rocker covers and side covers. Just renewed the gaskets on those bits on my coupe and have a spare set of covers i intend to paint and then fit later. If they look half as good as yours i'll be happy!
Cheers,
Dave

Hi Dave,

Thanks for the compliment! :D
After six years of owner ship i just still love it like the very first day i bought it. Every meeting i go, every holiday i take the car with me i take the most pics of the Vitesse :D  8)

If i would be a car i would be an 800 i think, a gentle giant  .

You're welcome Marc, you've done a great job there! I know what you mean, i've had my Sterling just under 8 years now and it never fails to put a smile on my face, even at the moment where it's not handling right ( i know what the problems are, i have the bits, just haven't had the time and energy to do it yet) it's still heaven on wheels.

Never even thought of the "If i was a car" comparison but it's a good one!
Cheers,
Dave

Hibernation time.

After a long drive (230+ km's) wash + spray wax, gas tank filled, tires 3,5 bar, rubber seals treated with conservation creme, tires treated with conservation creme as well. Battery taken out and a pajama to cover him up. Snug as a bug in a rug. ;)

You forgot his teddy bear!

Nice job there, hope that car park is safe for the winter? Park a car in a car park like that in the UK overnight and it's likely to be stripped - leave it over winter and the only thing left would be a few flakes of rust and maybe an abandoned spanner or screwdriver from the vandals as they stripped it.
Cheers,
Dave
