Re: 1989 Rover 827 Vitesse automatic
Thanks Dave. It's about trying to find a balance to protect the expansion tank, given their propensity to split (and as you say, that would lower the boiling point to normal atmosphere) and of course protecting the cooling parameters.

You're right Mark, all about the balance but for the most part, as long as the cooling system is in good condition it's self-balancing.

Re: 1989 Rover 827 Vitesse automatic
Does anybody know the inside diameter of the hoses to the tank?

Re: 1989 Rover 827 Vitesse automatic
As above Marc - the Rover hose is 16mm bore, the Volvo hose is 19mm bore, hence the reducer and short length of 19mm bore hose.Marc-827-Vitesse wrote: ↑Thu Jul 07, 2022 7:56 pmDoes anybody know the inside diameter of the hoses to the tank?
The overflow/vent hose is 8mm bore if memory serves but also fairly certain it's the same size on both.

Re: 1989 Rover 827 Vitesse automatic
A while ago i refurbished the rims on my 827 Vitesse. They all still look good but one rim showed some corrosion. I probably did not clean it properly before:
My boss had no problem with me doing it properly now. So i took my chance and jacked up the Vitesse and took of the wheel:
Removed all the corrosion:
Applied some primer on the bare aluminium:
Colour wheel spray silver:
And then my colleague applied 2K clear:
Cleaned the inside and applied wax. Also tire dressing on the inside and greased the hub:
Loolking fresh again!:
The coolant tank is now fixed. The old tank really was on its last legs:
The Volvo 850 tank suits the system and even the cap. But the design is different so some modifications were in order:
My friend made a bracket out of thick steel on which the tank could slide and then could be bolted to the inside of the engine bay:
Drilled two holes and installed self fixing nuts:
At my work i cleaned up the bracket and applied primer:
Painted it with matt black:
And my colleague finished it of with 2K clear:
At home i sprayed cavity wax in all the holes and then degreased the area so i could then cover the old holes with stickers. Then i cleaned the area and applied spray wax on the body work:
Installed:
Thanks again for all the help! Looks ace i think!

Re: 1989 Rover 827 Vitesse automatic
Very good job Marc.
I need to look at my tank to see, if it is ok or not.
Can you give the Volvo's reference

Re: 1989 Rover 827 Vitesse automatic
Of course, as everything you do looks fantastic but I'm interested why you drilled new holes in the wing rather than make a bracket to fit the existing ones, even if it may have been slightly off-set?
Clearly you perceive there to be an advantage, physical or asthetical but I'd like to know for when I probably have to do the same adaption. Great work as always.

Thank you! My friend and me did our best. Ehm the steel that i had and would fit the tank had vertical slots. Much drilling through this steel would compromise the strength and looks of the bracket I would say. And to make sure the hose would clear the inner wing it had to move forward. It could have been done without drilling but this looked the best and worked the best with the materials present.

Re: 1989 Rover 827 Vitesse automatic
Did some jobs on the 827 Vitesse.
A while back, the passenger side window did not work properly. The window went down with no issue. So the motor must be good i reckoned. But up it did not work sometimes. Only wen you knock on the inside of the door it worked. I asked the pages on Facebook and everyone told me to start re-solder. It did the job!
It works fine again!
When i sat down low and worked on the door i looked up and noticed some rust on the inside/topside of the inner door. Not wat you want. I checked all the other doors but it was only the passenger front side door:
Removed rust:
Rust preventing primer:
2 K glue to fill in the spot of the removed shut line:
Normal primer:
Some silver and 1 K clear to finish it all:
Not as new but fine and pretty sure it will be preserved now!

Re: 1989 Rover 827 Vitesse automatic
Always something to do. Good work again, Marc.
Coincidentally, I have been working on driver (4) door packs , totally resoldered, all the traces checked and extra LEDs inserted with the requisit resistors. I will also be further exploring illumination with fibre optics. Obviously, not to hijack this excellent thread, I will be showing the results of the work on my thread soon. What's more is, I have spares that am willing to sell, if anybody is interested? Please wait until I have posted or PM me.
