I was very disappointent when he guested on 'Edd's Workshop Diaries' and allowed Edd to be somewhat disparaging regarding the 800, particularly when Edd questioned the 'Sterling' name, saying it was silver, therefore 'second place'. Perhaps he was forgetting the national currency, 'Sterling', coin of the Realm, which was based on silver bullion. And when we saying something is 'sterling' we mean it is very good.
I've never been impressed with Edd China, couldn't engineer his way out of an open door IMHO and never thinks through what he says.
You're spot on with Sterling and in fact, in the USA where the whole range was branded Sterling, they each came with a small Sterling Silver ingot and i think a key fob too. Shame our top of the range models didn't get similar but doubtless they would have been "lost" over the years between being new and us owning them.
Cheers,
Dave

Did some jobs on the 827 Vitesse.
Cleaned out the lower front wings.

Front left there was some dirt that i cleared out with brake cleaner:

Some minor rust that i sanded:

Rust preventive primer:

Front right was no rust at all:

After this i treated the wings with cavity wax and re-installed the liner.
I checked the underside and came across a minor dent. It was caused i think when someone bumped in the rear exhaust (before the stainless was installed) and that pushed against the underside. Cleaned out and treated:

After this i gave the underside and doors a cavity wax treatment:

The underside looks black on this pic but it is not.

Nice weather this weekend so i took my chance and cleaned the 827 Vitesse, filled it up, pumped up the tires, took it for a spin and put it into winter storage. :)

A lot was done this on the 827 Vitesse this year. The next project on this Rover is already around the corner. haha. But more of that later.

Ooh, intrigue!

While some 800s get to hibernate, others are out there working hard.

During the hibernation i took my chance to tackle some issues with the interior. In the past i painted both frond seats and the steering wheel (also repaired the driver seat). Only the passenger seat looks good still but the other and the steering wheel sadly deteriorated quickly. I'm not an professional clearly haha. A friend of mine told me he had seen a wheel in the correct colour and in good condition at a car part supplier specialized in old English cars.
Image
It was in good condition indeed but i wanted it to look as good as new. Masked it, degreased it, and sanded it with 240 grit and then degreased it again:
Image
Image
Then applied the dye of Colourlock:
Image

Image
Image
That is looking pretty sharp. Then i applied leather sealer to make the result last as long as possible:
Image
Removal of the old steering wheel:
Image
Image
And there you go:
Image
The old wheel just looked tatty. When you can improve, you must i think. :
Image
The more eagle eyed reader might have noticed that the driver seat has been taken out of the car. I will have that seat restored by a professional. One must know their limits. ;)

Cheers,
Dave

It's inspired me to lookto doing my Volvo one at least - the Jag doesn't need doing yet but that's half wood, half "Light Stone" in Jag-speak or "Stone Beige" in Rover-speak.
Cheers,
Dave

Wheel looks good. And good idea regarding the seat.

Strangely, I want to modify the sun visors. I have always thought the heat sealed vinyl looked cheap. I've got some grey textured vinyl, some roof liner material and a donor visor and I'm going to see if a local car upholsterer can stitch something together. A job for next year but if anything comes of it, I'll let you know.
