Re: Mk1 827 Si Saloon
Back in July i went to the BMC & Leyland show at Gaydon and i never added this to my project thread. I took the 827 along. I had a swift journey up! Fantastic weather. I got pretty burnt. Lots of great cars on show, both outside and in the Heritage centre as well. I took around 300 photos.
Lots of mk1 cars together
Kevin's gorgeous Sterling mk1
The first 800 off the production line back in 1986
The concept car for the 800 in coupe form. It even had a fully fitted interior but the windows were so dark i couldnt get a photo
Princesses and Ambassadors
BRM's. I love these.

RETRORIDES GATHERING 2016!
Yes i finally made it. I intended to take the drift car last year, but it was a bit ambitious for its first venture onto the public highway. This year i was also intending to take the driftcar and run it up the hill, but after the clutch master cylinder started failing and the steering column bushing broke up, it wasnt up for a long journey. So i went in my trusty 800.
I left the Surrey in dry bright conditions, but by the time i got to Shelsey Walsh it was drizzling, so a bit of a damp start.
But i brightened up progressively and there were plenty of decent and interesting cars on show. I took loads of photos, and also some videos. These are a few of my favourites.
Nice collection of Escorts.
Yank stuff. Loved the Duster in blue.
I got chatting to the owner of this monster, a Ford Brougham in very solid condition.
A menacing and very VIP Merc.
Super low and super clean Lotus.
A beautiful Monza.
Jay and Cheryl's SD1's. The Gold one is a 2.6 but had a side exit exhaust and sounds gorgeous. Who needs a V8!
Nice TP Vitesse.
And then i wandered up to the hill to watch some action. These chaps had big cahoonas, especially the driver of the silver one who was giving it some!
I had a great day. Best car show ive been to purely because of the wide range of cool cars form the 70's to 90's and chilled atmosphere. I'm going to go next year but will be camping as well. I might have to buy a transit just for the weekend!

Re: Mk1 827 Si Saloon
Took the car for an MoT. It failed due to rusty sills, and an area of rust under the back. Haven't had an opportunity to get under there to see how bad it is yet. It also got advisories on a number of bushes, so i have my work cut out for me!
So im off to try and buy some new sills.

Re: Mk1 827 Si Saloon
There's a guy on here called Mark (Fastback) who has reproduction new sills available for saloons and fastbacks, have a look in the index and you should find it, better still do a search.
Good luck with the wedling and bushes anyway!

Re: Mk1 827 Si Saloon
Thanks Dave. I've sent Mark a message, but it's sitting in my outbox? I've also emailled him through the forum and posted on his thread. Hopefully he has a pair left.

Re: Mk1 827 Si Saloon
I've answered the query about Outbox/Sent in your other thread, from what i remember Mark aka Fastback doesn't get on here every day and with the notifications not working it may be a few days before he gets on here.n1tr0_9 wrote:Thanks Dave. I don't know if anyone has a number for him and maybe they could text/message/phone him to let him know he has an enquiry waiting. That said if you've emailed him via the forum then he should get that so he should be in touch shortly i would think.

Re: Mk1 827 Si Saloon
Sills ordered. Just need to clear some space in the garage and get them welded on.

Re: Mk1 827 Si Saloon
New sills arrived for the 827. I got them off a chap called Mark on the 800 forum. He and his brother make them up and sell them for an extremely reasonable price. PM me for Mark's details. I was very impressed with the detailed swage lines and details at the ends. Plus they even have the cut outs to go around the jacking points and the step so they sit behind the front wings. Last photo shows why mine need replacing. Now I just have to find some time to fit them.

Re: Mk1 827 Si Saloon
Good evening Rover fans some progress to report. After weeks of festering outside under a car cover, i unearthed this beauty and have been showing it some love in the form of new sills.
I got the front bumper off and also the front wings. The base of the passenger side wing snapped in half to reveal a large collection of crap, filler and at least three layers of bodge repairs. Poor car.
I then cut the drivers sill off. I was expecting much rust and was pleasantly surprised to find that the only part of the inner sill that required patching was the very rear. I made a section from the unrusty part of the recently removed outer sill. Plug and seam welded. Then i made a repair to the rear closing section. Covered the lot and the inside edge of the new sill in zinc primer and then when that had dried i started welding the sill on. I forgot to mention drilling feck loads of holes for the plug welded lower seam.
All back together with some minor adjustment to get the lines right. I cant get full access to finish the welding or grinding without taking the doors off. I dont want to do that at this stage. Ill wait until its off for paint before doing that.
One side pretty much done and ill start the other side tomorrow.

Re: Mk1 827 Si Saloon
Agree with Simon post, I just wish I could remember the camera when I decide to go out and do repairs and have the confidence and welding skills to undertake such a task.
Great job, hope to see you again at POL if your going.

Re: Mk1 827 Si Saloon
Someone else doing sills over Easter!
Good job mate, sorry to see you discovered the old bodge on the front wing. Nothing worse IMHO than discovering a previous owners bodge when you least expect it.
You say the car is off for paint. Do you have a good contact for someone who can respray a whole car? I might be interested!
